TPM: Lieberman Skips Town!
LIEBERMAN SKIPS TOWN!

With a major winter storm moving in, Senate staff is setting up cots in Hill offices to spend the night in preparation for an important procedural vote early Saturday morning that all 60 Democrats are likely needed for -- except TPMDC has confirmed that Sen. Joe Lieberman has beat it back to Connecticut for the Sabbath. Brian Beutler has the latest.

1. Yup, you gave him what he wanted and he still wont be there to
vote for cloture.

And no matter when the vote happens or whats in the bill, he probably will have some other excuse to not be there.

2. Why am I not surprised?
You think he's beginning to realize just how radioactive he's become?

CT should have elected Ned Lamont in 2006. But Lieberman just had to ally himself with Karl Rove, and you know the rest.

18. He should've closed the airport!
But if Lieberdick isn't there, do they still need 60? If he just abstains, can we get it through without him?

9. Figures.
Really, we don't need him until Monday when the cloture motion is filed. Hopefully, the roads have cleared up by then. Othewise, airlift time.

11. They may need him for cloture on the military appropriations bill tonight
or early tomorrow morning. If he is not there and/or others are not there due to snow then the only way they can get 60 votes and get past the military appropriation and back to health care is with Republican votes.

20. Apparently that was not the last vote on the military appropriation
at least according to TPM:

...But tomorrow, bright and early, all of them could need to be on hand for procedural reasons. For instance, Democrats expect to have to waive a budget point of order they expect Republicans to raise against the defense appropriations bill.

13. Yes, but he usually stays in DC and walks to the Capitol as he did last weekend
He went home for the last day of Hanukkah to be with his family. Jeez, I wish he stayed in DC but for cripes sakes, everything is not a conspiracy

16. Scream all you want, it's too late now. He'd have to walk back from Connecticut
for any votes. After sundown he won't be driving or flying anywhere.

Punk'd again by the Lieberman

25. The Hill now says his voted is not needed:
According to his spokesman, Lieberman was "assured by Democratic and Republican leaders that his vote was not needed to pass Defense appropriations."
