Here's a final set of numbers from our new NBC/WSJ poll that we find fascinating: 57% say the Iraq war has been successful, versus 40% who say it has been unsuccessful.

It's a reversal from July 2008, when 43% said Iraq was successful, and 53% said it was unsuccessful.

If perception is everything, then Obama gets credit for the Iraq war success. The results were opposite in July 2008 when Bush was President.

With more then a year to go you have to cross your fingers things continue to progress well there. Ultimately, I think Bush will get the credit, unfortunately. Not that he deserves it.

8. When reading polls like this it is important

to keep in mind that only about (optimistic estimate) 40% of the American people have the slightest clue as to what is going anywhere except in their own private little world.

I don't understand how Iraq could be considered a "success" in any substantive way because the primary mission objective laid out by Bushco- disarming Saddam of his WMD- was actually already accomplished before we invaded/occupied/overthrew Saddam. In fact, if you want to be honest about it, it was Bush I and Clinton, along with the UN, whom should be given all of the credit for successfully disarming Saddam of his WMDs. Bush was hell-bent on invading/occupying Iraq/overthrowing Saddam for reasons we may NEVER know and in the process UNNECESSARILY sacrificed a LOT of lives, money, and our reputation and prestige in the world. That's NOT a *success* by any stretch of my imagination. It's kind of scary to think that so many people (if you believe the poll) believe that what should rightly be considered a "war crime" was actually some kind of "success"- which makes it likely, unfortunately, that another POTUS will believe that they are free and clear to do something like that again. *ugh* :puke:

By any measure Iraq is worse off today than it was before we invaded. Less water, less electricity, less public safety, less employment.
