See what happens when you let the GOP frame the debate and lead you around by the nose? They will lead you right off of a cliff!

It's scary how liberals have been pretty much right about everything...from the Bush tax cuts to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the need to focus on jobs rather than the deficit. You can't let the GOP frame the debate because they actually want the economy to tank.

Obama needs to fire his entire economic team and replace them with people like Paul Kurgman and Robert Reich and he needs to do it immediately.

Listen to the people on the left. There's not much time between now and election day.

So we have a large net loss.

3. Actually,
this is what happens when people let Republicans control a branch of government and have enough votes in the Senate to block bills, nominations, etc.

After all, it was really the Confederacy that was at fault.

We voted for Change. We got flaming dog crap instead.

6. We probably lost jobs
If you'll notice in the report, June and July's gains were revised downward by 58,000 jobs. That seems to be a theme. I wouldn't be surprised to see the GDP similarly revised again, showing that we officially entered the double dip recession over the summer.

12. You are nothing if not predictable. What makes you think Reich & Krugman can make businesses hire..
people? If anything, I would think there would be even more opposition from the business community to them than the current team. Do you know if (and it's Krugman, btw, not Kurgman) & Reich have some special relationship with business that would make them more receptive to job creation? And wouldn't any plan that costs money still have to go through this same GOP controlled Congress, who control the purse strings?

You know, angry rhetoric & hyperbole are fine for venting frustration, but still no substitute for substance. Your entire post makes absolutely no sense. Simply changing the players doesn't change the dynamics of the current Congress in the slightest. :eyes:

Not so good for the other guys and gals.

How did the number come out to exactly zero?

Do they round off?

It seems improbable that the exactly same number of people lost and gained jobs.

20. Except approximately 40,000 Verizon strikers were counted as unemployed
and they are now back to work - not much - nowhere what is needed, but it is not zero. In addition, the story this year has been the massive STATE layoffs - especially in red states as the money from the stimulus ended.

If those workers weren't counted last month, they will be counted this month. Also, since when do state worker layoffs not count?

26. I am not questioning your numbers - I know they are the numbers
The reason I pointed out the strikers is that various sources said they were included as newly unemployed for this month - as they have gone back to work - they will e included as a gain next month. The point I was making is that - as they are already back to work - that 40,000 - though legitimately counted, balanced out 40,000 new jobs. So, there really was a small gain.

The point of mentioning the state workers is that these loses are being caused by states implementing Republican plans - and again balancing out real private sector gains.

how jobs get created next.

Please.

How do the votes go ... explain that.

What passes in Congress?

Or is your is it your position that the American people will accept NO ACTION AND NO JOBS, so long as Obama gets angry, and he "goes big!!!", and then gets nothing anyway.

How does this work?

25. Actually we lost 84,000 jobs last month
When the "0" new jobs data came in this AM, it was adjusted with a fictious number called the "birth/death" model that purports to show the net creation of new businesses that were not surveyed in the BLS sweep.

The BLS added 84,000 hypothetical jobs to get to zero new jobs. Based on the data actually surveyed the report should have been -84000 jobs.

The birth/death model has been the subject of much suspicion by statisticians since the BLS can not show it has any historical validity.

Edited on Fri Sep-02-11 03:28 PM by Cali_Democrat
Believe it or not, thousands of jobs were created during Bush's last few months. Of course the millions of jobs lost negated that. Anyone referring to the payroll numbers refers to the net jobs created or lost.

32. Anytime payroll numbers are released, it always refers to the net
Even Bushco created jobs during his last few months, but that wasn't enough to balance out the millions of jobs lost.

Being in power, you know? Maybe the voters will learn from this that government staying out of it does not help.
