US and NATO rebel allies in Libya are now persecuting Blacks in droves
This is why it's best to avoid getting entangled in foreign alliances and military adventures. What seemed like a noble cause could actually lead to ethnic cleansing.

Blacks in Libya are now being rounded up and persecuted in droves. The people doing it are the same folks allied with the US and NATO.

Dropping bombs and launching missiles with the goal of overthrowing a dictator isn't always as easy as it seems. Foreign military policy is complicated and the arm chair warriors typing from behind their keyboards need to realize that.

Libyan rebels round up black Africans
By BEN HUBBARD, Associated Press – 3 days ago

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Rebel forces and armed civilians are rounding up thousands of black Libyans and migrants from sub-Sahara Africa, accusing them of fighting for ousted strongman Moammar Gadhafi and holding them in makeshift jails across the capital.

Virtually all of the detainees say they are innocent migrant workers, and in most cases there is no evidence that they are lying. But that is not stopping the rebels from placing the men in facilities like the Gate of the Sea sports club, where about 200 detainees — all black — clustered on a soccer field this week, bunching against a high wall to avoid the scorching sun.

Handling the prisoners is one of the first major tests for the rebel leaders, who are scrambling to set up a government that they promise will respect human rights and international norms, unlike the dictatorship they overthrew.

The rebels' National Transitional Council has called on fighters not to abuse prisoners and says those accused of crimes will receive fair trials. There has been little credible evidence of rebels killing or systematically abusing captives during the six-month conflict. Still, the African Union and Amnesty International have protested the treatment of blacks inside Libya, saying there is a potential for serious abuse.

7. The US and NATO supported the rebels overthrowing Gaddafi
These same rebels are now persecuting blacks.

It's not rocket science.

9. It's a deceptive subject line. The U.S. and NATO are on the side of the rebels but
against violence against civilians.

The truth is that the U.S. and NATO are against killing of civilians.

13. Wrong. THIS is your subject line:
"US and NATO rebel allies in Libya are now persecuting Blacks in droves" It does NOT say that we're "allied" with those who are persecuting Black people. You can read it yourself. It's very clear and mis-representative of the article.

18. It says that two groups-the U.S. and NATO rebel allies are killing Black people. The article says
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 09:54 PM by jenmito
no such thing. And my first post to you, before you tried changing the subject, said, "Unrec for adding the U.S. in there where nothing is mentioned about the U.S. in the article." You can't deny that it's wrong of you to claim the article said the U.S. killed Black people in Libya in droves.

It mentions that the US rebel allies in Libya are the ones doing that.

14. The truth is that it's a 4 day old article and they are already being released.
You can't trust old articles when the situation is http://news.yahoo.com/foreigners-complain-harassment-libya-rebels-203152935.html">so dynamic. "In one sign of possible change, an official for the U.N.'s main refugee agency, Sam Cheung, said several dozen Somalis were released to his group Sunday." The truth is that it http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1874312&mesg_id=1880924">doesn't remotely compare to Gaddafi's treatment of black Africans.

Meanwhile Gaddafi denied HRW and other NGOs access to the thousands of prisoners in his jails.

27. The subject line is ambiguous. I think that's what's causing much of the argument in this thread.
It can be read as:

US, and [NATO rebel allies]

meaning that NATO's rebel allies, along with the US, are
persecuting blacks.

Or it can be read as:

[US and NATO] rebel allies

meaning that the rebels who are allied with both the US and
NATO are persecuting blacks.

I think Cali_Democrat intended the second meaning.
