Perry: The border is not safe

I've got a suggestion. Stay the hell away from the border. Regular civilians should have no reason to be there.

1. The US-Mexico border is not a DMZ.

U.S.–Mexico surface transportation trade totaled $320.3 billion in 2010, an increase of 27.6 percent compared to 2009 (Table 6). The value of imports carried by truck was 26.5 percent higher in 2010 than 2009 while the value of exports carried by truck was 24.3 percent higher.

Texas led all states in surface trade with Mexico in 2010 with $114.5 billion. This is the first time on record that a state has had over $100 billion in trade with Mexico by surface modes of transportation in a calendar year.

In 2005, there were 5 million truck crossings and thousands of railcar crossings in both directions between the US and Mexico.

All this has nothing to do with Perry's posturing and pandering, but the border is a critical commercial zone, not a DMZ.
