Republicans won't offer a rebuttal on Obama's speech tonight

Now, I don't normally go around proclaiming chess-versus-checkers or multidimensional chess by the Obama administration. In fact, I'm listening to the Best of the Left podcasts from last December, and hearing the analysis of him capitulating to the Right on the Bush tax cuts is frankly vomitous. I'm really not looking forward to listening to the podcasts of 2011 just because I'll have to start carrying a barf bag with me.


But in this case, maybe he actually did do the chess-versus-checkers thing. By making the Repubes whine about the jobs-bill speech on Wednesday and moving it to Thursday, he gets to talk just before the opener of the NFL season, effectively preempting any immediate response to his speech. Because this is America, dammit, and the Repube's core demographic sure does like some football. Especially after a 7-month drought!

And, thank God, we don't have to look at some smug asshole selling a line of bullshit afterwards.
