"Unlike Mr. Obama, Mr. Bush drew a brief cheer from the crowd before his reading."
Wha...? From the NY Times report "":

Mr. Obama read from Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength.” Mr. Bush read a letter from Abraham Lincoln to Lydia Bixby, a widow in Massachusetts who was believed to have lost five sons in the Civil War. Unlike Mr. Obama, Mr. Bush drew a brief cheer from the crowd before his reading.

The tableau was striking: the president who spent years hunting Bin Laden next to the one who finally got him. The president defined by his response to Sept. 11 standing alongside the one who has tried to take America beyond the lingering, complicated legacy of that day.

Why, oh why, did Bush get cheers when Obama didn't? Because Obama ?

2. Another case of Bush revisionist history, Bush was unconcerned about brother Osama!
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 12:25 PM by gordianot
Barak Obama targeted Osama Bin Laden not George Bush or that twisted vile creature the called they Vice President.

They just wanted to give a shout out to the dude who let 9/11 happen on his watch.

Clearly they were cheering for Bush, but not Obama.

7. I think conservatives tend to be more "invested" in 9-11, that's why.
Whereas many of the left saw 9-11 as blow-back caused by U.S. policies in the Middle East, most conservatives felt it was an unprovoked attack on America and identified more as victims of the atrocity, and see more political value in playing up the commemorations of the event, which saw their leader Bush with over a 90% approval rating for weeks afterwards.

8. 9/11 needs to be toned down
The guttural, animal side responses from the republicans will always be heard over the more refined cultural repose of being content with oneself that we know that it is the democratic party always left to clean up their mess. Do not be mislead by such noise and distraction.

41. Agreed ...
9-11 hit me as hard as anyone else, and I still become fairly enraged when I think about it.

But, I can't stand to hear about it now because of the perverse way it has been used for political reasons.

13. Why, oh why, do some Obama detractors reach so hard to bash him?
Bush gets applause on 9/11 because he's not a "caver" like Obama (the man who actually GOT Bin Laden). You heard it from DU.

The MSM couldn't have pushed a better anti-Obama narrative.

28. They should just become Republicans
Bullying "strength" is the only thing they admire. Republican are best at bullying. So why not just become Republicans? They never cave. They hold the nation hostage because they stand by their principles. They try to exclude the people they disagree with.

Obama, meanwhile, visited Arlington National Ceremony on Saturday and spent a few hours with his family volunteering at a Washington soup kitchen.

29. Just like the Teabaggers have to turn every stupid friggin thing into a reason to bash Pres. Obama,
there is now a segment on the other end that does the same damn thing - to a ridiculous degree.

There was an earlier post pointing out that at a 911 Concert in NY after it happened, some of the crowd (I thought it was first responders) booed Hillary. There is a clear RW faction that has decided to turn the biggest terrorism failure in the history of the US into some bizarre pro-Republicans rah rah club. Dumbasses.

37. Bush is an unclassy frat boy who was cheered by like-minded freaks. Obama has class and...
...his supporters are respectful (yea, really, even here on DU I find that Obama's supporters are far more respectful than those who don't support him). They'd never cheer him at a memorial service, and those that did would get a full on admonishment in the microphone.

Cheering at a memorial ceremony where 1000s of fellow Americans were killed!!
Great, great.

The same people who think the term "zero tolerance" means they don't have to take shit for anything they say that is crude!

46. Sad as it may be ...
I just think hardcore Republicans have no respect for what should be a respectful memorial service. They have to turn everything into a jingoistic, "Our country rocks! Kill all the Arabs! They attacked us!" moment. That same 27% of idiots continues to cheer Bush and jeer Obama because he's one of them. Had people cheered Obama and remained quiet for Bush, it would be 24/7 on the news how disrespectful Obama's supporters are. Screw 'em. Bush was a pitiful excuse for a president, and I can only hope on his dying day he thinks about how his actions were responsible for far more deaths than the 9/11 attacks that he beat his chest over for the next 7 years of his failed presidency.

I rank the cheers for Bush right up there with people cheering Perry for his record of executions. Sometimes, human nature is incredibly depressing to witness.
