Anecdotal evidence: It is KILLING right-wingers that Obama took out Osama
Edited on Mon Sep-12-11 01:16 AM by scheming daemons
Played golf this morning with my normal group, most of which are right-wing leaning, misguided souls.

There's usually lots of banter, with me being the only "Obama supporter" in the group.

Conversation on the 3rd tee, right around 9am, while we were waiting for the group in front of us:

Mike: "Well, it was right about now that the first plane hit the World Trade Center."

Rob: "Yep. You think those bastards are burning in hell right now?"

Me: "Yeah. And Obama sent their leader to join them."

Mike: "Fuck you. Obama had nothing to do with it."

Me: "Remember 'dead or alive'? 7 years of trying, your idiot President couldn't deliver. Mine did."

Rob: "Yeah, and in exchange we get to live in Obummer's socialist utopia. How do you like it so far?"

Me: "I wouldn't know. Pretty much anything remotely 'socialist' was filibustered or otherwise blocked by your right-wing nutjobs, so we haven't gotten to experience any 'socialism'. We haven't done the things needed to get us out of the Bush Recession.

Rob: "There you go again, blaming the fucking economy on Bush. Two and a half years in, when does it become Obama's economy?"

Me: "Two and a half year's in, when does it become Obama's military that took out Osama instead of Bush's military?"

Joe: "Shut up and hit the fucking ball already."

They HATE the fact that it happened under Obama's watch... They not only want the economy to fail to get Obama out of office, they wanted him to fail at getting Osama.

3. They're decent guys everywhere but politically. I try to convert them, they try to convert me.

But they're decent men at heart.

14. What would make "decent men" harbor irrational hatred for our president?
Your description of their words belies your description of their natures.

26. Political beliefs rarely reflect social behavior. When I lived down south I borrowed tools, got...
...my lawn mowed for free, etc, from a pure teabagger from hell who shit all over anything liberal. I personally don't like to burn bridges so I would keep my politics out of it, but generally, people are good, even people with shitty ass political views.

That teabagger was a retired fireman, to make things more interesting. I'd work on my car in the driveway and he'd saunter over and bring me tools and talk and offer me a beer. When Hurricane Ike hit I was out of power for two weeks, three houses on the entire block were out of electricity and mine was the only one. He used an extension cord from his house to mine and kept my fridge going.

One can go on and on and on about southern hospitality, but generally these people have been coopted by corrupt ideology, in general not all people are evil.

34. I agree, but WHY?
The people in the rural areas of Ohio near where I live are unfailingly polite and generous, even (or especially) to strangers, just as you say. But when these same people talk politics, out of their mouths comes the most odious hatred, bigotry, and far-right-wing lies I have ever heard in my life. The SAME people. What gives? My life matches my politics. Why doesn't theirs?

16. I know very damn few Thugs who are actually "decent" people.
They loathe anyone who disagrees with them. They are concerned only with themselves and their money.

Is that "decent?"

Silly me!

Well, at least we can both agree that our country's problems are all much better now that bin Laden is gone.

Because according to your logic, he shouldn't receive credit for Social Security.

13. Interesting
They seem to want to eschew any sort of responsibility for the bad economy that Bush presided under and technically which remained in full effect until October 2009 (not to mention the fact that his tax cuts got extended for 2 years) but seem eager to want to point out how "Bush's military" got Osama. It seems to me that they are basically trying to have it both ways AND conveniently ignoring HUGE chunks of history at the same time. I would say I'm surprised, but...............:eyes:

BTW some conservative commentators are so busy trying to disavow Bush's role in driving the economy off a cliff that they are resorting to claiming that he was actually a "big spending liberal"- even though they and all of the other Republicans at the time, of course, endorsed EVERYTHING that he proposed during the 8 years he was in office.

27. Were they really swearing and you not swearing? Because I've observed that, myself.
Social conservatives tend to swear a lot more than I do, and I'm a flaming liberal. I work with construction guys all day long and they're as right wing as they come (with the exception of the handful of Latinos that work with me). They curse every two minutes, continually.
