POLL: Obama's disapproval rating hits new high...55%
President Barack Obama's disapproval rating has reached a new high of 55% while the number of Americans who think he is a strong leader has dropped to a new low, 48%, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday.

And a familiar pattern in public opinion on Obama again asserts itself: Americans don't like his track record on major issues while they continue to like him personally. Nearly eight in 10 respondents say Obama is likeable; large majorities believe he is compassionate, hard-working, and has a vision for the country's future. Three-quarters think he fights for his beliefs.

But only 39% approve of how he is handling unemployment, and just 36% approve of the way he is handling the economy, not surprising when more than eight in 10 think the economy is in poor shape.

Opinion on Obama's economic track record is mixed, however. While fewer than one in 10 (9%) think his policies have made the economy better, about four in 10 (39%) credit them with preventing the economy from being even worse than it is today. On the other side, 37% say Obama has made economic conditions worse. Fifteen percent think his policies have had no effect. Six in 10 say Obama has fallen short of their expectations.

1. This is great news:
One piece of good news for Obama is that his standing among the Democratic base has turned the corner after a drop in the wake of the debt ceiling agreement. The number of Democrats who wanted the party to renominate Obama dropped to an all-time low of 70% in early August, but it rose to 72% in the previous poll and 76% in the current survey.

This is good too:

7. It is Only Good News for the Republicans
It makes it considerably more likely that Rick Perry will be the next President. :hide:

13. Likability is a constant. Perception of the issues can change fast. It's good for Obama.
If he concentrates on jobs his numbers will rise. Check out Reagan's ratings from Fall 1983.

17. New PPP Poll Show POTUS Beating Perry by 11 Points
Perry easily - it's Romney that's closer, but POTUS still wins.

3. It also proves...
that repub obstructionism has worked...people don't follow what's going on in Washington and see how the repubs are blocking everything...voters just look at results.

5. I think they look for strength and leadership.
He'll get better in the polls if he just stays strong.

6. are you saying that...
none of this was via strength and leadership ---> www.whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com

Ask OBL is Obama has strength...that's right, you can't...he's dead :-)

It's very easy to think Obama doesn't have strength when the repubs fillubuster ALL THE TIME...it's like asking Obama to throw an 80 yard TD pass with no arms...the QB looks pretty weak there.

10. Calm down.
Stop putting words in my mouth. Here you come loaded for bear.

Have you seen this one:
http://whatinthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/

And yes, I think he is weak. I wasn't gonna say it but you asked for it. Killing Bin Laden (Seal Team 6 did the killing) was ballsy and if you like that, fine. But I'm not much into the death thing. I don't glorify anyone's death. And it doesn't help our economy ONE IOTA. That is where he is weak. Standing up to Republicans is where he is weak. Go to that link up above I provided. That is where he is weak. You want more? I got it. Just ask.

He doesn't have to throw a touchdown. He just has to be a leader. If you think he shows 'leadership' and it's all fine and good, then maybe that's why he's sinking in the polls. I don't encourage what I don't like. Just a little quirk of mine I guess.

12. disagree with everything you said...
Obama is sinking in the polls because repubs are obstructing everything and most people don't know this...they look for results and they don't see it so they blame Obama...this has been the repub gameplan from the beginning....I guess the repubs are fooling you too...haha! actually, it's not funny :-(

19. You are just sad!
By Chris Andersen

We as Democrats have apparently come to the conclusion that the Republican’s uncompromising attitude towards their opponents and a kill-or-be-killed approach to negotiations (politics as nothing BUT war) is the RIGHT way to govern. How could I conclude otherwise since we seem to spend so much time talking about how Republicans would do it differently (i.e., better)?

Obama promised a different model of governance. Not a left-wing version of the same right-wing intransigence that we have become used to, but a model that says that the best of our country is exemplified when finding ways to work together in order to solve our problems is more important than making the other side look “weak” and your side look “strong”. He campaigned on it, he has lived it and I admire him for it.

Now I can understand the frustration of many in light of what we have seen for the last three years and I don’t question anyone’s right to be upset that this country has had to put up with so much crap. But I refuse to let my frustration lead me to adopt a model for judging strength that is specifically designed to make the greatest of human values (kindness, intelligence, compassion, etc.) look like “weakness”.

I would hope that others would join me.

11. that's very true...
but it's also that repubs take advantage of people who are not paying close attention because they work 20 hours a day; they know these people don't know what they are doing - obstructing any progress - and the repubs knows they will blame Obama and not them...that's what is happening now...this is why Obama's approval #s are down.

22. Disapproval 55%, Approval 43% -- Let me just say this about that --
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 04:56 AM by Whats_Happening
When GW Bush ran for re-election in 2004, his approval numbers were in uncharted territory -- Presidents like Nixon, Reagan and Clinton who WON a second term sailed through their re-election year well ABOVE 50% approval. On the other hand, Carter and GHW Bush - the one-termers -- were well UNDER 50% in that fourth year in office.

GW Bush was in uncharted territory -- throughout 2004, his approval ratings literally bounced around 50%, at times a few points below, at times (more often than not, in fact) a few points over. And so everyone wondered, what was going to happen? GW Bush was able to beat Kerry, by 2.5%.

If Obama continues to bump along in the low 40s (while unemployment continues to bump along around 10%) -- I'm sorry, I don't care how many "keys" he has, I can't see him winning.
