PPP: Perry Keeps Wide Lead Over Romney
September 14, 2011

Perry Keeps Wide Lead Over Romney

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds Rick Perry continues to hold a double digit lead over Mitt Romney nationally in the Republican presidential race, 31% to 18%.

The rest of the field: Ron Paul at 11%, Newt Gingrich at 10%, Michele Bachmann at 9%, Herman Cain at 8%, and Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum both at 2%.

If the race came down to just Perry and Romney, Perry would have the advantage 49% to 37%.

1. IMHO, Romney would be the stronger candidate in the general election.
So let the Teabaggers nominate Perry.

9. He would stronger amongst 'indies', but he smokes the wrong brand of jesus to get the rabid gop vote
...I think it is a toss-up but a Perry Presidency worries me much more than a Romney one does...Mittens changes his mind 20 times before he's even had breakfast, Perry simply does what his owners want him to do...

2. It's five months away before the first vote count
I don't think he can keep a double digit lead that long look for this to tighten up three weeks before the Primary. One question I have is there any state in the Primary where Independents can vote in the rethug Primary

3. Perry's lead will only grow as the dropouts supporters move to
the "true conservative".

(Except the tiny number of Huntsman types)

5. I dunno
Perry has what looks like a strong lead right now, but it could evaporate as Dean and Giuliani's leads did. He is a very flawed candidate, even for the Republican primary electorate.

6. Everyone under 10% will drop out soon
The question is, where do their supporters go?
