Wouldn't it be great if Elizabeth Warren wins the seat for senator, does
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 10:17 AM by Cal33
a good job, then runs for the presidency in 2016? She'd be just
making it agewise, too. And if she makes it, I predict the first
female president in this country will be a great one.

1. I'm sorry...If she wins, which I'm not holding my breath on....I want her to stay in the Senate.
I want her to stay in the Senate seat for as long as possible to insure that another Brown doesn't take over, or fuck it---Brown himself.

2. Elizabeth Warren already has the name-recognition for the presidency in
2016. And aren't there good Dems. in Mass. to take her place as senator?
I must say I was surprised when they elected Romney for governor, though.

10. Massachusetts is not Boston
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 01:25 PM by Recursion
And even in Boston, this was not all that long ago:

Note Faneuil Hall in the background...

The Mass Democratic party has some serious corruption problems. Everything from bribery to embezzlement to a former state house speaker hiding Whitey Bulger (who was his brother) from the FBI. And he's not as corrupt as the guy who just got run out of town on a rail. Mass will vote D for President for the foreseeable future, but Warren's run is by no means a shoe-in, and frankly I'm worried about her prospects.

23. Example - Just last week,
former Speaker Sal Dimasi, sentenced to 8 years for corruption - taking bribes - and today his pension was taken away form him.

I'm just hoping the primary is not knock down, drag out, so that whoever wins will not be badly damaged.

25. And the primary isn't until September of 2012
If the primary gets bruising, the winner will only have seven weeks to campaign.

21. If there were...why aren't they running? Really now.
Secondly, Elizabeth Warren seems to me like a woman who wants to get things done. She'd have more success and really take the battle to Republican ideals not as a President---but as a Senator. This is one of the reasons why I think Sanders is so functional as a Senator.

9. Because she's polling behind Brown, has no political or campaigning experience...
...and Massachusetts has a history of not electing women to statewide office.

15. She's been unofficially in the race for a while
The poll gap has been consistent. I hope it improves.

22. You do...I don't. Because you like her and this board likes her doesn't mean she has a chance.
Actually it means more of the reverse.

4. I like Elizabeth but what in her background screams "president?"

Lets just focus on getting her elected to the Senate first and go from there.....:)

6. As of now, she is the perfect candidate
She hasn't taken a position on most issues, so people can just assume that she agrees with them.

7. She is for protecting the consumer from being taken advantage of by
the corporate business world, and has come up with a way of
how to do it - a way which has been accepted and adopted by
the White House - and she is perfectly willing to enforce it.
This alone, says a great deal about her and her values.
She is for all of the American people, and her intelligence
is beyond dispute.

How many presidents in the past four decades (experienced
or not) have shown even a modicum of these qualities?

11. And there's the DU theory of "governing by intention" showing up...
The realities of the legislative process, the political process, and logistical implementation of policies are all supposed to disappear before the will and intent of a leader (assuming he or she has "backbone" and is willing to "fight").

17. Yes, you are right. "The POTUS' is the most powerful man in the world, is an
over-exaggeration on the part of the journalists from ages ago.
The reality is that s/he has to satisfy so many people before
things can get done. But some are better at getting things done
their way than others. It's very relative, of course.

even if you don't want to face it, because it might disturb your world.

I'd suggest you try and not look....

13. Better than recent governors from Texas any day
I think President Obama is doing quite well considering the banshee screeching opposition he has in Washington and from permanently disgruntled people.

24. She has a chance
Martha ran a bad campaign. That's how Scottie got in. Plus, he had all the radio jocks on his side. Listening to some of the shows was like listening to a looping campaign promo for Brown.

Another candidate of interest is Setti Warren (no relation to Elizabeth). He's the young African-American mayor of Newton, MA. I live one town over but go to church in Newton.

Not sure if Mike Capuano will be running, but I think he would be a formidable challenger as well. Bottom line is that Scottie must go.

I worked for him in 2010 and I still support him in this primary, though I'm not a bay stater anymore.
