Not me, I was ready to be rid of the last 8 years of poor performance.

34. I expected that he would push his bipartisan crap from day one

because that's what he said he would do. I also expected he would be, as President, a right leaning centrist Democrat, ie; Rockefeller Republican - because that's what he'd said he was, for anyone paying attention.

He has fulfilled my expectations - the one area where he has surprised me is in his leadership and negotiating skills - where he starts from a position of weakness and progressively gets worse. He's a progressive! LOL!

I had expected a bit less naivete than he's shown, however - though with his obvious lack of experience coming into office I suppose that shouldn't have been a surprise. What has surprised me is his seeming inability to change direction as the circumstances changed. He was handed the opportunity to at least make an argument for fundamental change, especially with the economy - and the best he has managed is to kick the can down the road.

how difficult these Congresses can be, so better than expected given what he got out of these Congresses, especially the 111th. I did not realize how much one Senator could keep things from happening.

44. it's about what I expected. Like Clinton before him - center-right on economics and foreign policy

moderately liberal on social issues. This has now been the Democratic Party modus operandi for more than the last three decades. Anyone who was expecting something different was engaging in wishful thinking and not paying attention. And to say the least they were not asking themselves why Wall Street interest were investing so much in him and why the corporate controlled media was pushing the idea of his candidacy so enthusiastically. It is reasonable for any progressive to be disappointed in the direction American politics has taken - It was not dealing with reality to expect Obama to be something he is not and has never been. Perhaps it sounds a bit harsh. But progressives who are disappointed in Obama really have only themselves to blame for not paying attention and engaging in non-reality based wishful thinking. Those who are now calling for a real progressive with broad appeal to run in the primaries are a bit to late. They should said that in 2008.
