1. Well,
Republican are never going to go for it.

Clearly what we need is a more progressive President in order to get Republicans, who control the House, to pass this bill.

2. No, we need a President to go out and shame the Republicans
instead of trying to work deals with them.

5. Since
"+1000 This is something the GDP fans do not understand."

...you understand so much, what's the point of the OP and why are all the votes for "zero"?

"You are to biased to honestly discuss Obama with. But I respect your total dedication!"

..."honestly" wouldn't be the way I would describe such a discussion.

Respectfully, sincerely, and all that jazz!

"No, we need a President to go out and shame the Republicans instead of trying to work deals with them."

...like a winning job-creating strategy. Are Boehner and the other crazy Republicans capable of feeling ashamed?

Makes one wonder why some are claiming that the President's latest effort to take his case to the American people and call out Republicans isn't going to work.

Are they trying to have it both ways?

Nothing Obama can propose that can create jobs in any significant number will pass the GOP House.

Trying to work with them is a fools game, and tax cuts (the only thing they will go for) wont do shit for the problem.

The only way to get them to move in the right direction is to make it politically untenable to continue obstructing the kinds of programs that would have any chance of alleviating the unemployment.

To do that, you have to shame the shit out of them, make it obvious to even the densest joe and jane conservative voter that they arent acting in their best interests.

Placating the conservatives is political suicide.

You really believe that embarrassing Boehner is the way to make him vote to end the Bush tax cuts? That embarrassing Boehner will make a teabagger see the light?

"You're right, lets just give in to their every demand

...be logical. Implying that embarrassing Republicans isn't going to make teabaggers see the light in no way suggests that anyone should "give in to their every demand."

If you arent fighting them the only alternative is to cave in to them.

Seriously, there is no common ground with the Republicans.

So, I have to think that is an outcome you are okay with since its the only outcome Obama will achieve by playing up to them.

What does that have to do with embarrassing them enough to make teabaggers see the light?

Logic?

You seem to think theres no alternative to giving in to them, Im saying make them pay a political price for the obstructionism.

Theres a time for passivity, but as dire as things are in our country this isnt the time.

18. Isn't the President's Jobs Bill fighting them?
He proposes a bill, includes things they agree with, he knows they will NEVER go along with it because ANY concession by them could be seen as working with Obama, so really the bill was simply a campaign strategy.

Maybe he really is employing Truman's strategy.

11. The President has been going on the road pushing this jobs bill to the public
Edited on Sat Sep-17-11 10:23 PM by CakeGrrl
This week he will highlight a closed bridge between Ohio and Kentucky - the backyards of Boehner and McConnell.

He is talking to Joe and Jane voter, not just directly, but through local media coverage of his events. He was in VA and NC this past week doing the same.

Meanwhile, the chattering masses on cable news keep nipping at his heels and getting others to do the same.

9. Naive to assume the Tea Party has any sense of shame
These are the same people who hold UI benefits and FEMA funding hostage. What kind of harsh language will make you feel all tingly and shame the likes of Cantor and his ilk into benevolent action?

:eyes:

Funny that some just want to hear pretty words.

20. Honestly, I don't think it really matters. I think the issue is a well crafted election ploy.
As President Obama proposes, the rethugs dispose. They know that going in. So if it's going to be that way, why not propose tax hikes that are popular with the voting public until the cows come home?

That way, President Obama can run on rethug opposition to everything he tells us is good, rather than simply "we suck less than they do".

It's kind of ingenious actually; fill the House with bills that everyone knows are dead on arrival while telling the voting public these bills are good, will end all problems, raise employment, and shrink the deficit whether they will or not.

21. Welcome to Campaign Season -- But Hey Its Nice to Hear Obama ACT Like a Democrat Again...
Edited on Sun Sep-18-11 01:37 AM by vroomvroom
at least for a little while.

Yes this bill will never pass if it even gets to the floor but still its nice to see Obama grow a pair (even though we know its fake) and at least bring up the idea so he can look like he is trying to fight for us instead of caving at any sign of red coats like he always does.
