The Buzz: CPAC Florida will give birth to a Super PAC
SEPTEMBER 20, 2011
CPAC Florida will give birth to a Super PAC

FreedomWorks, the group that provided financial and organizing backing to the tea party in 2010, says it will launch a Super PAC at CPAC Florida.

FreedomWorks for America will be the "first Super PAC organized to directly support grassroots GOTV," the group said. FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey and president Matt Kibbe will hold a news conference on Friday.

Super PACs are so named because they can raise unlimited amounts of corporate money. Donors do not have to be revealed. Republicans started the trend following a controversial 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling on corporate money in elections, but Democrats have joined in, despite criticizing the process. By law, the groups must work independently of candidates.

"FreedomWorks for America aims to empower the leaderless, decentralized community of the tea party movement as it continues its hostile takeover of the GOP establishment," the group said. “The objective of FreedomWorks for America in 2012 is not about turning blue states red, but rather to turn every state a bright shade of Gadsden yellow.”
