Political Wire: David Frum: All About Defeating Obama
All About Defeating Obama

David Frum: "I'm not shocked by much any more, but I am shocked by this: the leaders of one of the great parties in Congress calling on the Federal Reserve to tighten money in the throes of the most prolonged downturn since the Great Depression."

"To what end? I know what the detractors will say: to the end of defeating President Obama and replacing him with a Republican president. And if you've convinced yourself that Obama is the Second Coming of Malcolm X, Trotsky, and the all-conquering Caliph Omar all in one, then perhaps capsizing the US economy and plunging your fellow-citizens deeper into misery will seem a price worth paying to rid the country of him."

1. If the economy can be compared to a very sick patient, the Repubs are
saying "pull the plug, do not resuscitate!" No interventions, let it die.

2. Pretty damned strong statement from a Republican
Although one who has been critical of the Republican Party over the last few years and is liberal on some social issues. Still, this is strong stuff aimed at the Republican machine.

5. I agree
Those who think the president can simply say "it's going to be this way and nothing else" are not dealing in reality. Congress is the biggest problem we have. Republicans will do anything they can to make sure president Obama will not win a second term, even it that means further destroying this countries economy, and putting millions more out of work! On the other had there are also democrats who are constantly tearing down the president because their "OWN" personnel agenda has not be met by the president.

As for here on DU, we still have many who can't get over the fact their candidate lost in 2008, plus a healthy supply of right wing trolls that come here to divide people and convince them that voting for Obama is no different than voting for the republican. Anyone in their right mind can look at Wisconsin, Maine, Florid and other states that republicans took control of in 2008 because so many on the left stayed home and didn't vote, and see that is not the case. On president Obama's worst day, he is till a thousand times better than ANY republican being in the WH!

8. I know. It's weird in a sense. Bruce Bartlett, Reagan's former economic advisor
is sounding just like us: a liberal! Whodda thought that we'd be comparing ourselves with the likes of a Reagan-anything?
