1. Band of Rivals?

I guess one could make several comments in the positive (as well as the obvious negative ones).

First, this is an advisory board, not a cabinet or undersecretary post. Perhaps it is true that the president, like Lincoln, who has been stated as his model, likes to surround himself with a variety of opinions to consider.

Second, the guy is not without professional credentials. It was Democrat Lee Hamilton who recommended him to be executive director of the 9/11 Commission.

I'm not supporting this choice ... just responding to your request for potential commentary.
