Obama to Republicans at Boehner's bridge: What are you waiting for?

Obama to Republicans at Boehner's bridge: What are you waiting for?

by Jed Lewison

President Obama took his campaign for the American Jobs Act to an aging bridge connecting John Boehner's Ohio with Mitch McConnell's Kentucky. Standing before the bridge, which is in desperate need of replacement, Obama delivered his most fiery remarks since unveiling the legislation, calling each of the Republican leaders out by name, explicitly saying that they and their party are the only thing standing in the way of getting a jobs bill passed. It's worth a watch: President Obama in words and tone seemed fully committed to the fight for his bill, and showed no signs of backing down.

<...>

Partial transcript:

This bill is not that complicated: it’s a bill that would put people back to work rebuilding America. <…> There is work to be done, and workers ready to do it. So let’s tell Congress to pass this jobs bill right away.
What is Congress waiting for? Why is it taking so long? Now, the bridge behind us just happens to connect the state that’s home to to the Speaker of the House with the home state the Republican leader in the Senate.

Now that’s just a coincidence. It’s purely accidental that that happened. (Laughs)

But part of the reason I came here is that Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell, those are the two most powerful Republicans in government. They can either kill this jobs bill or they can help pass this jobs bill. <…> There’s no reason for Republicans in Congress to stand in the way of more construction projects. There’s no reason to stand in the way of more jobs.

Mr. Boehner. Mr. McConnell. Help us rebuild this bridge! Help us rebuild America! Help us put construction workers back to work! Pass this bill!

more

Pass the damn bill!

18. Why did it take Obama so long to use the bully pulpit to his advantage?
Instead of all that compromising - giving in to renewing the bush tax give aways to the uselessly rich, giving up the public option, and setting in motion the cat food commissions I and II - he could have called them out and taken it to their home districts.

Why did President Obama wait until now to fight the RepubliCONS?

I guess better late than never.

19. Yup; run with that last line
He pushed "reasonableness" beyond all reasonable limits, if you ask me. I'm reassured in that now he has nowhere else to go politically (i.e. full-throated opposition to rethug extremism) if he wants to win next year.

15. Not to sound disrespectful....
but comments like yours are not very helpful nor really wanted so please do us a favor and yourself as well and go do something constructive like... Hmm, I don't know maybe actually stop blaming the president and do something to make things better. It is so easy to blame Obama because many people don't understand how politics really work in this country. Obama ISN'T an emperor nor is he a dictator who can just say do something and it gets done no questions asked. Our country doesn't operate that way no matter how much some of us wish it would. So please take my wise advice and stop thinking it does. Obama is not doing this because of his campaign for re-election. This is not a PR stunt. He is doing it because it is the right thing to do... period.

Look if you want to make a true difference and get rid of the fucking republicans then vote then down. Speak out against them and do more then just throwing our guy under the damn bus. It is so bloody easy for to demonize Obama because people are easily decieved by lies and deceptions. For example: "Obama has no spine. He is a socialist. He is naive. He is republican in disguise and so on... etc. Get this fact into your head: Obama is not the enemy of the middle class. He is doing his best dispite the shitty situation he was dropped into. When will you and others finally realize that Obama doesn't deserve to be treated with such disrespect nor dishonor. I know the american people have very little patience when it comes to getting what they want. In some ways that is a bad habit that needs to be broken while in others... it makes since. We need to give this president the benefit of the doubt considering what he has had to deal with. I commend him for having the determination and patience despite dealing with assholes on daily basis to keep trudging ahead toward his ultimate goal.

So if you ignorantly think your assumptions are right and perceptions are correct then you are kidding yourself. You don't know how hard it is to be president of a country of voters who flip flop all over the fucking map just because they can't be patient and have a little faith. Voters who are easily swayed because they either can't or refuse to see the big picture. The problems in this country are not merely the politicians but us as well. We voted for some of these bastards because we believed them without doing the research on the person first. You can't judge a book by its cover and you can't just blindly believe a politician who sounds to good to be true. Obama is one of the few that spoke from his heart and uses his head to try and solve problems. These problems have been with us for a long time and they will continue to be with us until we put a stop to them. For it is we the people in this country who have the true power to change things. The politicians can't do jack shit without us and they know it which is why the little bastards go out of their way to try and lie to us. They want us to be meek and weak. They want us to accept things the way they want them to be but we can't let them just do as they wish. We are their employers for we pay their salaries, their benefits and vote them into and out of office. We are the ones who hold the TRUE POWER in this country so why are not exercising that power. Are we to fucking cowardly...? No... I don't think so. Are we to fucking lazy...? Nope... not at all.

SO WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO TOLERATE THE BS FROM OUR DISOBEDIENT EMPLOYEES? Please, I would love to hear your answer on this very important question.

11. Republicans yesterday were saying it's only been a couple days since they received the bill.
Obama said today it's been 10 days. Assholes are stalling and can give a shit about any jobs bill.

is the Anderson Ferry. It's still running. Obama should do a speech there to show us all what Republicans really want. Imagine I75 crossing the Ohio on this cute small ferry boat.
