President Obama to headline key LGBT dinner
Washington (CNN) –- President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address at a gathering of gay and lesbian activists in October, a key constituency that hasn’t always been receptive to Obama’s policies and style of leadership.

Obama will speak at the annual National Dinner of the Human Rights Campaign on October 1, an event he last headlined in 2009.

“We are honored to share this night with President Obama, who has a tremendous record of accomplishment for LGBT people,” Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese said in a statement. “On the heels of the end to ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ we look forward to celebrating our victories and redoubling our efforts for the fights that remain ahead.”

"I believe that gay couples deserve the same legal rights as every couple in this country," Obama said at the LGBT Leadership Council gala dinner in June.

6. For what? They should be thanking President Obama for doing something Clinton & Bush didn't do.

Of course, Clinton was responsible for heinous anti-LGBT legislation aka. DADT & DOMA in the first place. And approved anti-gay campaign ads in 1996.

11. It happened on his watch. And Bill Clinton sure did approve anti-gay campaign ads in 1996.

And let's not forget what Bubba told John Kerry to run on in 2004:

12. Poor John - he worked so hard for the OFA money.

He really struggled to find his version of the "truth". He was writing for you - to provide you your false talking points. Lucky for Obama not many members of my community hang out at DU or they would turn against him because of "supporters" like you.

And isn't it unfortunate that Obama has to go speak at the HRC event this weekend 'cause our money just isn't coming in like they stupidly thought it would. A queer event is the last place Obama wants/needs to be seen in this campaign cycle.

On Edit and before its gone: I suppose you will get this post deleted as well.

13. Awww, did they not get your approval, before inviting their President?
And a "queer event" is just the place he needs & should be seen because they're his constituents, just like most in this forum. And as for the money not coming in, how would you know that since the figures won't be released until the end of the quarter?

Obama's Donor Base for 2012: What We Know, What We Don't
Submitted by Dante Chinni on Fri, Sep 02, 2011

President Obama's public approval numbers may be down, but he still has a large number of supporters -- and they are ponying up for his re-election bid. In the second quarter alone, he took in more than $33 million in individual campaign donations.

But what does Mr. Obama's donor and support base look like in the eyes of Patchwork Nation's 12 county types? In the second quarter it was heavily based in urban and suburban America, but it ran through the exurbs and college towns as well.

The picture, however, is far from complete. The majority of Mr. Obama's quarterly contributions were impossible to follow, coming in the form donations small enough that they are categorized as un-itemized, meaning collected without the names and addresses of the contributors.

Other than the NYT hitpiece, which was summarily dismissed this evening by Alex Wagner & Richard Wolfe as pure "anecdotal" drivel, I'd like to see proof of your assertion that "our money isn't coming in like they stupidly thought it would". Rev Al stated this evening that the president was on track to reach a million individual donors, so where do you get your information, or is this just more "anecdotal drivel"?

10. Like everything else legislation is never a done deal.
As far as attitudes towards same sex couples it was still in the dark ages during Clinton's time. We are not entirely there even yet but much closer. It wasn't even on my radar back then as an issue for me. My thoughts on the issue has evolved considerably since then but probably because of various impacts in my life that has nothing to do with same sex. Mostly, because it is the right thing and religion should not be the basis for determining marriages except within their church. If churches don't like same sex marriages then they should just not perform them. The churches should not dictate to the state that they can't allow other methods.

7. Perhaps, but we know the M$M can't be bothered. They never miss an opportunity...
to shove a mic in the mouth of Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, et al. Perhaps if the president were as ridiculous as his rivals, he'd get a lot more positive coverage. :hi:

8. That's for sure...
I guess he'll have to be heckled to get any coverage of this event, and then that would be the only part shown over and over. :hi:

14. Yep. Gotta keep the nee-grows and the gays divided and stir up the anti-gay rhetoric
so that they'll run to the Republican Party which cares so much about the gays!! :sarcasm:

We really need to wake up!

15. I blame the Log Cabin for most of the tension & division that's been sown within our ranks.
Every rightwing "activist group" under the sun is soaked in Koch Bros. $$$, and believe me, they're earning every dime of it. :hi:
