Great...the fucking insurance companies get the best xmas present ever!!!!
Billions of dollars of new customers who they can screw over with no punishment.

And after the Senate and House bills merge, it will SUCK even more.

Wait until the FIRST person is fined for not buying insurance and wait for the lawsuits to take off!

MSM will be all over these fines, so much that they will eliminate them and then the whole thing falls apart.

Just wait, the Insurance Company stocks will shoot up after this bill passes.

What a joke this HCR has become.

16. Why is that bad?
Any stock going up is a good thing, they will hire more people!

They will cover people who aren't covered now. I just don't get it that those people should remain in the situation they are in now. Who cares if insurance companies do better?

Usually when any stock does down it's a bad thing. Bad for the economy.

And people will be subsidized for buying the insurance. They will be getting something. It's a "gift" to them more than to the insurance companies!

41. Uhm no.
Actually you don't understand the stock market if you think that an uptick on a stock price means that the company will hire more people.

The Basics:

1- The only time where sold stock provides additional capital for a business is when the business sells more stock. This is usually only possible when a company first goes public. In fact, going public is often how a company raises the necessary funds to expand their business and operations. This is called an IPO.

2- This particular uptick is a speculatory jump based on the possibility of this bill passing with the accompanying expectation of additional monies that will be arriving for the companies involved. In this case public monies and forced private insurance purchased from insurance companies.

3- An existant stock that is being traded or purchased actually doesn't give one dime of the money back to the business at work and actually acts as a means of wealth extraction as each person that purchases said stock is expecting a pay off in dividends or in the resell value of the stock. This profit expectation is what causes a min/maxing attitude towards all other aspects of the business. Payroll is considered a flexible expense and environmental and certain aspects of service are considered "externalities. Specifically in the case of health insurance this means that they will choose to increase rates or reduce service in order to increase profits for shareholders.

Susan and Evan Bayh are just peachy this season. She will get a big fat bonus from WellPoint, while he is assured of corporate campaign contributions for his upcoming reelection.

Edited on Sun Dec-20-09 12:52 PM by ClarkUSA
Because you believe that the merits of passing landmark legislation should be based on the ups and downs of the Stock Exchange.

Gee, what a concept.

15. What about the billions of new customers having coverage
I thought the problem was that they didn't?

So it would be better to leave them with the status quo. I guess. Just because insurance companies benefit.

What of the extra people they hire to process the new customers and their claims?

26. Billions of new customers?
Shades of McDonald's "Billions and billions served."

The only hiring Big Insurance will do is for people to deny claims, and they can outsource that to China.

29. Keep it up with the ridiculous idea that all claims are denied
If that were the case they'd be in court all the time for breach of contract.

Name a company with claims operations in China. That's one thing that has to be local.

31. This is pretty much
The status quo.

You can't afford insurance? Pay a fine!

So much for reform.. instead, we all get forced to purchase a product offered by a private company. Gee, maybe next they'll pass a law saying people have to purchase the services my company offers.

36. Obviously you are not familiar with law
It is the plaintiff's responsibility to prove guilt.
If I make a statement and some person wants to call it wrong,
he or she has to prove my statement is wrong.

40. Um... you're not the defendant
YOU made the claim so that makes YOU the plaintiff. The plaintiff, CLAIMANT, or complainant is the party initiating a lawsuit. Are you sure you're not a birther, because you share their understanding about the law.
