Poll question: Assuming a Romney Repub Nomination, which running mate would make the R ticket most formidable?
In other words, which potential Romney running mate would make the repub ticket the biggest threat to Obama/Biden?

2. I agree with elleng...
Romney/Jeb would be formidable...

Romney because he is the least bat-shit crazy of all of them, and Jeb because he knows how to be presidential more smoothly than his brother.

14. I think people are done with Bushes.
There is no escaping that GWB ruined the economy, started wars etc. They can blame Obama now, but they know it was Bush. Neither father or son were good presidents so expecting Jeb to be better just because of maybe being presidential? I realize they are really stupid and don't like to think too hard but even so, I think they want to forget all things Bush.

Jeb has repeatedly said NO. After seeing what father and son have been through, the humiliation...he'd have to be really stupid to want to step into that pile of....!

Just this far out from the last one?

You both may be right, but I think a bush on the ticket would be poison.

4. Romney/southern governor or senator
Jeb Bush besides having the drawback of being a Bush isn't conservative enough for today's GOP.
Romney will need a true conservative on the ticket, preferably one with evangelical cred.

5. Too early for another 'Bush'. Romney would have to pick someone NOT on the list above.

Rubio - no - because of his Cuba lie
Cain - no - his lying the past two days has rendered him moot
Perry - no - his 'drunken/doped-up' NH speech video will be the end of him
Paul - no - too old and too extreme
Bachmann - no - too crazy
Gingrich - no way - all he wants to do is sell books and video cds

Followed by a Ryan candidacy in 2016.

My gut level feeling is that Cain is toast by Friday, and lingers like a Gary Hart candidate in 1988.

49. Not necessarily
Most conservatives don't trust Romney- on the economy OR social issues. They do, however, seem to trust Ryan and like his economic proposals and Randian philosophy. They might feel like if Romney puts Ryan on the ticket, he'll keep Romney "honest".

44. Interesting
I think he'll go Lieberman or someone just as moderate. He knows the Right Wing hates Obama so much that they have to vote for whoever the GOP runs. I think Obama will beat this ticket too, but not as easily as if Romney goes hard right. Obama-Biden would smoke Romney-Perry, Romney-Ryan, or Romney-Bachman.

55. accepting a liberal and a non-Christian as the nominee would be hard enough -they would HAVE to have
a Christian and a real Republican as the Vice Presidential nominee - at the very least. So in other words Romney fails the batshit crazy litmus test that the overwhelming majority of the base would demand. He would be forced to either satisfy the base by picking someone really extreme or completely abandoning the base and picking someone relatively moderate. I suspect given how much all leading GOP contenders have abandoned traditional conservatism for loonier rightwingism - I would guess he would go with the former.
(BTW - obviously I don't consider Romney either a liberal or a non-Christian - I am speaking of how the dominant lunatic majority of today's Republican Party now thinks)
