4. Yep. It's Karl Rove.
He's trying to head off another Sharon Angel/Christine O'Donnell candidacy.

Cain is in a real position to win the nomination.

5. The candidate who'd benefit the most is Perry
That is if Perry can avoid making an ass of himself in the next few weeks. Perry himself may not be brain surgeon material but he's probably got a bunch of Texas operatives working for him who know how to play in the dirt.

I really think that Romney still wants Cain in there to divide up the wackadoodle vote.

6. You don't have Rove listed (I know, he isn't a candidate) so I didn't vote.
If it smells like a rat, it's Rove!

8. Cain's own.
To gain publicity & sympathy via the 'candidate scorned' & 'they're trying to get the black guy' effect.

9. Gotta be the Perry Camp. No one else makes sense.
I agree with some other folks that at this point, Romney is happy to have the whackjob vote split a couple of ways and he will probably be content with that until at least after Iowa and New Hampshire and perhaps as long as super tuesday.

Cain knows that he is not a serious contender and never was, that he is just in it for the book sales of the present and future and the other possible money makers a presidential candidate can grab onto. Now would be about the time to duck out for him.

He's about at his peak now, and the more he opens his mouth from here on in, the more it becomes apparent he is not serious about running. The media is starting to turn on him and it's time to cash out.

Controversy is always a good sales booster and attention getter and the timing is just about right for Herb...

hmmm.

or maybe it was Obama's camp... would like to think that

14. It seems like the sort of thing that would come out eventually.
I'm not sure that exactly WHO brought it out at this moment is actually the central question. Cain's response, or I should say responses, have been very helpful in determining just what sort of man this is. A superficial one, I'd say. Like most republicans.

socialite, lawyer, etc, was one of Perry's paramours. There's a pick of him on Google. Here's his wiki link: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Connor

There was also another rumored liaison with a male state representative.

Who benefits?

If Cain collapses it's more likely his supports goes to Perry than to Romney.

18. Who really cares?
Eve though I voted in this poll, does it really matter? Perry is toast. Cain is done. The republicans will never allow a mormon in the white house. They have no one left. And whoever turns up on top, will never have the votes to defeat Obama. How come the republicans can't get a decent player? Because no one supports their idiotic ideas.

It is so transparent. Cain's supporters will shift to Perry, not Romney.

Not only that, it is advantageous for Romney to have both Perry & Cain stay in the race to split the more conservative voters.

27. I don't know, but Romney and Gingrich have the most to gain from Cain's downfall.
It really doesn't matter since this story was bound to come out eventually. But, with Romney being the favorite and Gingrich the next in line for the "I'm not Mitt Romney!" Republican sweepstakes, they have the most to gain.
