Wow- nothing on DU about the Arizona scandal??

Jan Brewer, monster that she is, just "removed" the Chair on the redistricting commission, who happens to be
the lone Independent, carving the way for the ultimate republican scam.

From Huffington Post:

WASHINGTON -- The Republican-controlled Arizona State Senate voted along party lines on Tuesday evening to impeach the chair of the state Independent Redistricting Commission, setting up legal challenges and throwing Arizona's redistricting process into disarray.

Tensions rose last week when Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) sent a letter to the chair, Colleen Mathis, who is the lone independent on the five-person panel. She accused the commission of "gross misconduct" in redrawing the lines and warned it about elevating "competitiveness" over geographically compact and contiguous districts.

Even though Mathis is a registered independent, Republicans have accused her of being too partisan and being too secretive about commission business.

"It's a sad day for Arizona," said Paul Charlton, Mathis' attorney. "There has been no meaningful opportunity for Colleen to tell her version of events. This was just an opportunity for Republicans to take over this process."

5. I bumped you up

I hope this news gets traction out there. This kind of stuff needs to be nipped in the bud.
It's only going to get worse as the election nears.

3. Who replaces her?

Does Brewer get to pick the replacement, I presume?

4. She also tried to get rid of the two democrats

Everyone is so focused on the Herman Cain scandal that no one seems to care
about something as big as this.

6. Cain has become a very useful distraction.
He's irrelevant.

Meanwhile, important stories are getting buried.

8. Here's a good article on it

Ultimately, Brewer will get what she wants unless there are recalls against the four moderate republicans.

Wow! :wow: They wanted to remove the Democrats too? :wtf: How is this not a perversion of the law?

Though it sounds like anybody removed would be replaced with members of the same "party", so now that they've removed an "independent" commissioner, she will have to be replaced with another "independent", so what have they accomplished (other than wasting time)? What if the next "independent" commisioner supports the decision of the previous one? Are they going to remove him/her too?

:puke:

11. It is not clear what, if anything,
any of us can do. It is not like Jan Brewer has every listened to anyone (including her constituents) before, she's not going to now. It looks like there was already a failed attempt to recall her earlier this year. The Chair is challenging the decision in the courts and our only hope is that the courts smack down on Jan Brewer so hard that it sticks. As long as Brewer remains in office we are F**KED. I don't think I will ever forgive Obama for offering Napolitano her position or Napolitano for throwing us under the bus because I don't think we'd be in this mess if she'd finished her term. Its not like neither of them had any idea what would happen. They just didn't give a f**k about the people in Arizona.

12. I hear ya....but I would blame "the People of Arizona" if I were you....
as they are the ones that elected Brewer. Just like they are the ones who voted McCain over Obama, and the ones who voted for Kyl, etc...

In fact, I understand that the people of Arizona voted for Brewer after they knew what she was up to. So Blaming Obama for offering Napolitano a position, and her accepting it is a bit ridiculous. Do people and how they vote ever makes anything they responsibility?

He's says they're looking to the courts for help, so don't give up hope!

17. I do hope that the Dems
use this in the next election ... AZ voters can be real idiots but they also get really pissed when elected officials explicitly flaunt their wishes.
