What I don't understand about Herman Cain

I'm having a hard time understanding how he can act as ignorant on so many things as he does.

Is it an act, or is he really that dumb.

Looking at his biography, he seems to have a legitimate record of education and accomplishment. And then, it seems he blooms into a full whackadoodle.

Is it an act, or is he really what he seems to be. Because I wouldn't put this Herman Cain in charge of a lemonade stand, let alone a restaurant chain.

1. Rachel Maddow said the other night that his campaign is really satire.
Makes as much sense as any other theory, I guess.

7. Makes sense to me. He's trying everything he can think of not
to win. I understand he has serious health issues so I really don't think he wants the job; probably wants to be VP.

Quoting Pokemon and getting a tax plan from a Sims game - shows he was never serious.

He is not going to be good at what he is now trying to do.

In the two years that Cain managed Godfather’s Pizza for Pillsbury, 1986-1988, sales fell from $275 million to $242.5 million. The number of stores fell from 640 to 563. There is only one quarter during this time that there is any report of profits. On Oct 5, 1987, there is a report in Nation’s Restaurant’s News that Godfather’s “’moved solidly into the black,’ the company said.” There were no report after that of Godfather’s making a profit and Pillsbury put it up for sale five months later.

During his term at the NRA, he was apparently sexually harassing just about any woman he met.

I suppose you could argue that he was a "successful" motivational speaker in that he's made money doing it, but there is ALWAYS some group of nutballs that will pay to hear some idiot speak (see Palin, Sarah.)

But I assume you are making an observation about keyword triggered automated advertising, and not some suggestion that I have anything to do with it.

6. I don't believe that

He had a masters degree in comp sci, a BS in math, and was doing financial analysis.

He was not handed an "affirmative action" degree from Morehouse, a historically black college, and Purdue has always had its pick of top qualified grad students of any background.

I'm not buying that.

10. Believe what you want
Back in the late 70's early 80's in the Twin Cities I owned and operated a "Management Search" firm (headhunters). The personnel director at Pillsbury was Gene Washington (WR 49ers) and the director of minority recruiting at 3M and later Dayton Hudson was "our" Gene Washington (WR MN Vikings) and at Gillette was a black gal too. None of them would even interview, let alone pay an agency fee, unless the candidate was a minority. The gal at Gillette even required a head shot photo be attached to the resume.

It wasn't aware of Herm, but I can guarantee you that what went on in those days is as I describe.

12. Your post is confusing. If Washington's job was MINORITY recruitment, wouldn't it make sense for
him to only interview minorities?

17. He performed quite well

Just because someone is looking for qualified minority candidates, doesn't mean they will hire any doofus of the right color.

Cain's performance at Pilsbury was not that of a doofus.

His performance as a candidate is appalling.

11. Koch Brothers.
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 10:47 PM by Raine1967
Not saying this lightly -- but I realy believe between the Koch Brothers and the RW radio machine (neil boortz as a prime example.) this is how he got to where he is.

I agree to a certain extent that his campaign was a joke, meant to generate book sales, but in the end, he is a Koch sponsored candidate to help elevate their ideas.

I don't think they ever really expected him to be the front runner -- and as thus -- they never expected to have him answer to his sexual harrassment issue.

Cain was supposed to be a useful (insert your own word here) to promote an agenda, but wasn't supposed to be a frontrunner. He was supposed to highlite the issues of the Tea PArty and the Koch brothers.

I agree with Raine1967. I don't think anyone ever expected Herman to get the bump he got out of Florida. Now it's all about how he exits the contest gracefully...no way does he get the nomination.

14. He has absolutely no experience running for political office
And unlike others who have considered the presidency an entry-level political job, he seems to have been completely unable to attract anybody with any real campaign experience to work for him. He's made a thousand rookie mistakes, and he's managed to bamboozle about 30-35% of the Rethug electorate that it's a sign of his 'genuineness'.

While I think it's possible for him to survive this sex scandal if no more women come out of the woodwork, he's still bound to shoot himself in both feet the way he's been going so far. It's a long way to the Iowa caucuses, and there are a lot of Gloria Allred wannabes out there.

25. Why do republicans always see incompetence as "genuine" and hence desirable?
It reminds me of the way republicans always view the withering scorn we liberals exhibit for their worthless deities as fear, as in "libs are terrified of Palin", and "libs are terrified of Bachmann", and of course, as you can now read everywhere, "libs are terrified of Cain".

So incompetence is "genuine" and is a good thing because it "terrifies" the opposition.

I will never, ever understand conservatives.

26. We had our own version of it
I recall that Barack Obama said that he made a decision to run for President so early in his political career, in part because he wanted to achieve the presidency before becoming corrupted by Washington, or words to that effect.

30. Yes. One reason is that he is an incredibly smart man. The other is that like
so many black conservatives, he sees an opportunity for advancement.

Yes. It is an act because they absolutely do not care. Also, if not an act, then you absolve them of all moral culpability. We shouldn't allow them to get off so easily.

31. I can't make up my mind - good reasons in this thread either way

Of course, I didn't know that Victoria Jackson's "ditzy blond" character was not an act.

I thought she was a comedic talent like Gracie Allen. I had no idea that they were just letting Victoria Jackson be herself all those years on Saturday Night Live.
