In the End, It Will Be Mitt Romney as the Republican Nominee
He will probably choose a right wing running mate like Chris Christie to satisfy the base, and the Republicans will fall into line.

The election next year will be very close much like 2000, complete with Republican shenanigans on election day.

The race will be a toss up, not a cake walk.

1. It won't be Christie as running mate. Romney has to pick a southern republican
with sufficient fundamentalist bona fides.

2. i agree
but the RW doesnt like Christie anymore. He'll probably have to go with a rural or Western type, a cowboy hat to distract from Mitt's Wall Street pinstripes.

3. The base will nominate Gingrich or Perry, but not a Mormon or someone from Mass.

6. I Just Don't See Gingrich or Perry Getting the Nomination
The Republican PTB don't want a complete joke at the top of the ticket. That will impair their chances of holding onto the House and gaining control of the Senate.

7. Everything I have seen for the last three years tells me that the "PowersThat Be" are teabaggers,
Christian Fundamentalists, anti-science types, anti-immigrant, anti-gay, intolerant, anti-government, anti-intellectual voters. They put teabaggers in control of congress and the power is now in the hands of those crazies. They vote.

10. I agree - the OLD powers that be have lost control of the Republican party
The new powers that be are the people behind the tea party. It astonishes me that people like the Koch brothers do not hide their prior connections to the John Birch society, which I thought was completely and thoroughly discredited decades ago.

4. You may very well be correct. That could
be one reason Christie declined to enter the race for president. Maybe this was the plan all along. In the long run I do not think it will be a winning ticket but with Republicans one never knows. It could be Republican voters will finally realize even a candidate who speaks out of both sides of his mouth is surely better than the rest of the gang. The rest of the field now running could be used for ingredients in a fruit cake for Christmas.

5. I work with a Tea Person who is also a Cain devotee. She will tell you openly and proudly that if
Romney gets the nom, she won't vote at all.

9. If it were Jon Huntsman, Obama would be in trouble
The stats show that Obama would have trouble getting re-elected due to the economy. Huntsman is, in some ways, a more moderate republican and therefore attractive to independents. We, of course, can take comfort in the fact that the crazies run the nuthouse and therefore it will likely be Gingrich.

13. I agree it will be Romney...
simply by attrition. Everyone else will self destruct and Romney will be the last one standing.

But I disagree about the General. This is a sacrafice cycle for the Republicans. Any R who has serious Presidential aspirations will wait until 2016. Nobody wants to go up against Obama.

Obama in a walk.

14. I predict a VP choice with RW following
like Ryan, Cantor, Rubio... even a Gingrich choice wouldn't surprise me.
