MESA, AZ -- In a stunning blow to the Tea Party movement, a huge turnout in Mesa's conservative LD 18 overwhelmingly voted out Arizona's hardline State Senate President Russell Pearce in a historic recall election today.

As the self-proclaimed "Tea Party President," Pearce's national role as the figurehead for punitive immigration measures also turned the recall election into a referendum on the state's notorious SB 1070 "papers, please" immigration law, which Pearce had made the hallmark of his legislative career.

8. A typical case of buyers remorse

This is going to become a regular occurrence. The gub'ment is bad, no new taxes talk is nice on the campaign trail or when one is pounded back a 12-pack of PBR, but when these lunatics get into office it is found they lack vision, are reactionary and radical, and even dangerous. They have contempt for the prospect of democracy where people with competing ideas work to find a workable compromise on how to best order things.

These people have no clue and are a scourge on our body politic. Sure, they'll enjoy some wins and they'll likely remain in power in the most ass backwards of locales, but when the sun shines on them, they burn and have to head back into the basement to crawl back into their coffins.

It is nice he was recalled but the voters installed another right wing extremist named Jerry Lewis. He said during the campaign that he "agreed with Pearce on the issues".

6. It's only a county board

... but Montgomery County PA voted in a democratic board of commissioners for the first time in 140 years. This is significant because it is a conservative county in a state that will probably be pretty important in 2012, and is notoriously schizoid. I'm thinking maybe that the fools who voted in Tea Party fruitloops for Governor and Senator may be feeling just a little touch of buyer's remorse.
