Perry's Camp Emails 'Clarification' On Perry's Israel Response

The Perry camp is already rolling on trying to further unpack Rick Perry’s answer about whether he would include Israel in his rethink for re-assessing all international aid budgets from zero at the beginning of the year. Here’s the clarifying email:

As Gov. Perry said during the debate, "Obviously, Israel is a special ally, and my bet is that we would be funding them at some substantial level. But it makes sense for everyone to come in at zero and make your case."

Gov. Perry is a friend to Israel and understands the challenges faced by the country. He has visited the country several times and has personal relationships with Israeli leaders. While in Israel in 2009, he was also awarded the Defender of Jerusalem Award.

Gov. Perry recognizes Israel as a unique and vital political and economic partner for the United States in the Middle East. Our mutual commitment to democracy and free market principles makes us allies in the defense of western civilization.

Gov. Perry understands Israel's security challenges, particularly the threat of Iran, and the need to work together to counter this threat. Especially after the most recent IAEA report on Iran's nuclear activity, we must not let any daylight show between our two nations.

Gov. Perry understands the need to continue to work toward a solution to the Palestinian problem, but does not believe weakening Israel is the road to peace. A strong Israel is in the best interests of the United States and the region.

Gov. Perry believes that the actions by the Palestinians to circumvent the appropriate diplomatic process and go directly to the United Nations to seek a unilateral declaration of statehood is unacceptable and a direct threat to our friend and ally, Israel.

Under Rick Perry's presidency, any consideration of Palestinian statehood will depend upon a complete recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, the total rejection of terrorism and Palestinian leaders sitting down directly with Israel to negotiate a settlement. The aid and support of the United States will be based on the Palestinians meeting these requirements.

5. The campaign statement put out sounded great to me
Americans favor Israel over Palestine by a margin of 3 or 4 to 1, depending on the poll. Most of us can't forget the images of Palestinians dancing in celebration on 9/11, and I won't let anyone forget it . How does it feel to know that you can't do anything to change our support of Israel? I love it. :)

...did you think of the comment (gaffe if you're a Republican) that the e-mail is designed to walk back?

Here's a poll...

POLL: 69 Percent Of Israelis Say Israel Should Accept U.N. Recognition Of Palestinian State

12. Let me be clear
Rick Perry is a moron who belongs nowhere near the White House, but Israel can use every bit of support. I support Obama's decision to tell our UN ambassador to vote against Palestinian statehood. How do you feel about that? You'll never get a president that supports Palestinian terrorism and aspirations.

14. Thank you very much
Maybe you should talk to the Palestinian terrorists and tell them to stop using innocent civilians as human shields and firing rockets into Israel.

Also, how do you feel about the Palestinians that danced on 9/11? Israel sent us its deepest condolences, while some Palestinians danced. I should feel sorry for these people? Not at all. Not my problem.

I get the feeling that you aren't just opposed to US aid to Israel, but that you actually want us to intervene. Is that a fair assumption? Let's be clear, even if we cut off Israeli aid tomorrow, that wouldn't change a thing. Aid is a very small percentage of Israel's GDP. If we were no longer funding the Israeli government, and they did something that you disagreed with, what would you say then? Would you support us intervening despite the fact that we no longer fund either side?

Israel has enough military firepower to make life hell for every Arab country that surrounds it, should they choose to engage. The Palestinians have a history of terrorism and Jordan doesn't even want them. Jordan doesn't want them, because they know of the terrorist roots of PLO. They know what Hamas has done in Jordan and what Hizbollah has done in Lebanon.

Now why did Jordan kick the PLO out in 1970, cpwm? Could it be that they were sponsoring terrorism and acting like pricks in general?

16. That "dancing in the streets" was a rumor
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 02:12 AM by Politicalboi
It was footage of Ramadan.

http://aramica.iqservices.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=196:arabs-danced-on-911&Itemid=521&lang=en

“I was watching the news last year, and they were talking about Arabs dancing here and in Palestine and they showed footage of people dancing in Palestine. All the stations showed this footage. CBS was the only station that ended up apologizing for showing the footage when they discovered that it was actually shot after Ramadan and not on September 11. Nobody showed footage of anyone dancing here. This is one of the reasons I watch the Arabic news stations. The American media is so biased and you can’t get the entire story from them.”

But Nutnyahoo did say 9/11 was good for Israel. Why would he say that? How could any terror attack in the US be good for Israel?

17. YOU ARE 100% WRONG. P.S. -- Nice unbiased source there - Arab-American news?
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 02:32 AM by NOMOREDRUGWAR
How about a real unbiased source? Snopes? Surely you wouldn't dispute that the Urban Legend debunker that smacked down the birthers is unbiased.

Here's what they have to say, Political BOI!

http://www.snopes.com/rumors/cnn.asp

Claim: CNN used old footage to fake images of 'Palestinians dancing in the street' after the terrorist attack on the USA.

Status: False

(CNN asks that you copy and e-mail this statement to whomever asks about it.)

There is absolutely no truth to the information that is now distributed on the Internet that CNN used 10-year-old video when showing the celebrating of some Palestinians in East Jerusalem after the terror attacks in the U.S. The video was shot that day by a Reuters camera crew. CNN is a client of Reuters and like other clients, received the video and broadcast it. Reuters officials have publicly made the facts clear as well.

RESOURCES
Reuters statement on false claim it used old video

The allegation is false. The source of the allegation has withdrawn it and apologized. It was started by a Brazilian student who now says he immediately posted a correction once he knew the information was not true. This is the statement by his university -- UNICAMP -- Universidad Estatal de Campinas-Brasil.

Again, please read this -- and copy it -- and send it to anyone you know who may have the false information. Thank you.

----------------

Will you now retract your claim that it never happened and was simply a rumor, Political Boi? Please don't do what the Republicans do and dismiss legitimate news sources when they contradict your claims, falling back on BS crap. That's what birthers do. Stand up and accept that you were wrong.

It is a historical fact that some groups Palestinians danced on 9/11 and were caught on camera doing exactly that. One of the Palestinians in the video even mentioned Osama Bin Laden and was praising him. Game, set, match.

18. Just to clarify so you can't sneak away from this,
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 02:35 AM by NOMOREDRUGWAR
I never claimed Arab Americans in THIS Country were dancing in the streets. I claimed Palestinians in the Palestinian territories were dancing. You brought Arab Americans into it and mentioned something about Ramadan. The Snopes and CNN articles confirm the authenticity of this footage -- it was shot in mid-afternoon on September 11th, in the Palestinian territories. Palestinians celebrated the World Trade Center attacks.

Again, please do not do what birthers do and dispute concrete historical evidence.

... seems awful wide to me.

I wasn't happy about 9/11, but I didn't blame each and every Arab nor each and every Muslim.

Similarly, when McVeigh committed his crime, I didn't blame every Lutheran nor every Republican (yes, McVeigh was a Lutheran and registered Republican).

23. What
"You'll never get a president that supports Palestinian terrorism and aspirations."

...does Palestinian statehood have to do with supporting terrorism? Broad brush statements like that imply tha the Israelis who support statehood also support terrorism. One has nothing to do with the other.

The reaction you decribed, "dancing," isn't limited to Palestinians. It happens in many other countries (and those who participate should be condemned), but that doesn't stop Republicans from being hypocrites. They'd just as soon condemn every Palestinian, but they wouldn't apply the same broad brush to the people of Iraq.

30. I think the people of Iraq are probably incapable of sustaining a democratic form of government.
That is why I was opposed to going into Iraq. It wasn't worth wasting American lives on people that hate our guts.

I support Israel because the UN gave them the land and the Arab nations have repeatedly tried to invade them. How do you justify Arafat's rejection of the Camp David deal? I'm guessing you support the Right of Return, right? If so, you know as well as I do that allowing that would be the death of a Jewish state. The Palestinians would simply outbreed and then outvote them. The Palestinians must never be allowed citizenship in Israel and a two state solution does not seem like it will work either, because Hamas will never agree to a two state solution. Even if Fatah and Abbas agreed to a deal with Israel for two states side by side, Hamas will continue to commit acts of terrorism. What then? Israel will have to take the land back for security purposes. You don't think the people of Israel want peace? They do.

6. Israel, Israel, Israel, Israel, Israel
Yet another debate with Israel as a major topic. Normally it's a contest for who can suck-up to the Israel worshipers the most. Even without Tim Russert around anymore, who always made sure Israel took up 1/4 of the debate time, the candidates still constantly talk about Israel.

I watched the beginning of the debate, and I couldn't stand the war mongering - it's disgusting. Much of it was centered on terrorizing or going to war with Iran, partly for the alleged benefit of Israel. And some wonder why Iran might want the bomb, even though there is no evidence that Iran is actually trying to get the bomb.

It's all so bizarre.

Israel, the US and NATO are constantly on the war path, bombing countries and occupying foreign territory. They have Iran completely surrounded with military assets on all sides.

And people wonder why Iran might want to pursue self defense mechanisms even though there is no evidence they're developing nukes. Why is it so hard to get this information out through the media filter?

8. That's what they will spend this week on.
I think they had him say this to distract from the other insane things he has said.

He'll spend this week saying that Israel would get as much aid or more under him, but that he wants to start at ZERO to cut off all of the countries that the far right wing hates.

They are creating a distraction that they can build on,m not run from.
