Poll: Majority Now Support The Individual Mandate
A new CNN poll on the issue of health care reform finds that support for the law’s central and most controversial element, the individual health insurance mandate, has climbed into majority territory.

In the new poll, support for the individual mandate — requiring people to get health insurance — has climbed to 52%, with 47% opposed. When the last survey was taken in June, that a majority of 54% opposed it, with 44% in support.

“The health insurance mandate has gained most support since June among older Americans and among lower-income Americans,” writes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “A majority of independents opposed the measure in June, but 52 percent of them now favor it.”

The poll of American adults was conducted from November 11-13 — before Monday’s big news that the Supreme Court will hear a challenge to the law — and has a ±3% margin of error.

1. That's interesting
with all the GOP yowling over the issue I'm frankly surprised at the numbers.

2. Maybe the GOP told one too many lies and they've finally lost their "credibility"
They ran on Jobs Jobs Jobs in 2010, but mostly have just tried to ban abortion and stop the economic recovery. Hopefully people are catching on thar they are full of bullshit.

in the beginning but after a few years of learning what is actually at stake & the options available enough have changed their minds for it to be a majority.

Like Obama said the HCR will sell itself over time...It appears he was correct once again.

3. It doesn't matter what the American people want...
...it's what the health-care insurance industry and Big Pharma want.

7. 90% said they do not doubt that Iraq is developing weapons of mass destruction.
People are idiots. You can convince them of just about anything if you repeat it long enough.

12. I wish a majority supported socialized medicine
I don't care for the current proposed system with a mandate that I buy private insurance, but hopefully it's just a first step towards single payer.

13. I think that that is why most GOPers are opposed to it
Obama himself stated that this was just a start in the process of changing the provision of health care in this country, NOT the endgame. Very few people- other than the right- seem able to take him at his word. There's absolutely no reason- if we can keep the WH and elect enough progressive Dems into Congress- why we can't continue to improve and expand on this law. PPACA wasn't everything I had hoped it would be but I am committed to defending it as a first step towards (hopefully) a national "Medicare-for-all" health care system. I would hate to see the GOP and/or SCOTUS reverse the gains made by this legislation.
