Barack Obama Gets Secret Service Protection

Jake Tapper contributed to this report. Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama was put under the protection of the United States Secret Service Thursday, the earliest in an election cycle that the Secret Service has placed a presidential candidate under its protection, the Secret Service said. Two sources said that security concerns, including large crowds and unspecified threats against the candidate, were the reasons for the security detail. But a Department of Homeland Security official said there is no known viable threat against the senator "at this time." The FBI confirmed that there was no specific threat against Obama.

2. I've seen no "anger" at Cain.
Presidential candidates automatically get protection.

Or are you just looking to stir up something?

4. I posted not because I'm angry Cain got protection. Far from it. I'd like to know
exactly what type of person is threatening a black nominee.

5. Racism and hatred are alive and well
or should I say alive and sick. Blacks running for president are still viewed by many as crossing the line. So I do not see anything wrong in assigning him a SS detail.

Cain is a kook. Oh and Obama never threatened to electrocute illegals who cross the border. Cain talks hate speech so he better think about what he says.

8. Because he's an easy target, plus it is another issue "du jour"
helping to direct conversations away from more relevant issues that ofttimes includes not so flattering discussions of the administration and the Democratic party.

11. Herman Cain Asks Secret Service To Protect Him — From Cameras
TPM: Herman Cain Asks Secret Service To Protect Him — From Cameras

A disclaimer: There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a top tier candidate asking for Secret Service protection. But the Herman Cain campaign’s explanation for becoming the first Republican candidate to call in the feds is, well, a bit strange. They say they requested reinforcements specifically to protect him…from television cameras.

15. Me thinks Jake is engaging in a little hyper rhetorical journalistic b.s.
Is anyone really angry that Cain is requesting SS protection? I mean, aside from the people who are actually issuing the threats?
