Schoen & Caddell shovel more idiocy in Op-Ed: President Obama should step aside and let Hillary run.
Edited on Sun Nov-20-11 07:49 PM by jefferson_dem
How these two bottom-feeding hacks can show their face in public is beyond me... Seriously, just try to read this tripe and keep from either :spray:ing or :puke:ing.

The Hillary Moment
President Obama can't win by running a constructive campaign, and he won't be able to govern if he does win a second term..

By PATRICK H. CADDELL
AND DOUGLAS E. SCHOEN

When Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson accepted the reality that they could not effectively govern the nation if they sought re-election to the White House, both men took the moral high ground and decided against running for a new term as president. President Obama is facing a similar reality—and he must reach the same conclusion.

He should abandon his candidacy for re-election in favor of a clear alternative, one capable not only of saving the Democratic Party, but more important, of governing effectively and in a way that preserves the most important of the president's accomplishments. He should step aside for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Never before has there been such an obvious potential successor—one who has been a loyal and effective member of the president's administration, who has the stature to take on the office, and who is the only leader capable of uniting the country around a bipartisan economic and foreign policy.

Certainly, Mr. Obama could still win re-election in 2012. Even with his all-time low job approval ratings (and even worse ratings on handling the economy) the president could eke out a victory in November. But the kind of campaign required for the president's political survival would make it almost impossible for him to govern—not only during the campaign, but throughout a second term.

Put simply, it seems that the White House has concluded that if the president cannot run on his record, he will need to wage the most negative campaign in history to stand any chance. With his job approval ratings below 45% overall and below 40% on the economy, the president cannot affirmatively make the case that voters are better off now than they were four years ago. He—like everyone else—knows that they are worse off.

Schoen is the same guy from "Penn Schoen & Berland," with Penn being Mark Penn, the walking pair of eyebrows that crashed Hillary's campaign in the first place.

8. More than likely they would allow her to pass a couple of minor
things then they would begin their obstructionist crap all over again. I knew back when all the Pres. Clinton stuff was going on that this was never going to end and was only going to get worse. Boy I wish I had put money on it because it got worse alright.

The republicans thirst for power is all-consuming now. They no longer care about the costs or the harm and they will eat their own as they gain more and more power (overtly or subversively). It's not enough that we have been pointing it out and screaming about the corruption from the top of our lungs. It will take a very scary situation, policy or event to actually wake the rest of this nation up it seems. Unfortunately I don't even know what that would be. It seems enough is out there right now but there are too many people ignoring what is right in front of them. It's as though we all got hit by a bus and most lost their memory of what happened instantly while the rest of us still feel the pain and know where the scars came from.

17. When was the last time either of them were right on anything?
If Hillary wanted to challenge him, she could have and if he prefered to step down, he could have done so early enough to let the people of the Democratic party actually chose a nominee. Is that a novel idea? Had he done this and if Hillary ran and won, that would make her a legitimate nominee. I feel sorry for Hillary that these people continue to push her.

18. Let's see now
Truman was replaced by Eisenhower, who overthrew democratically elected governments from Guatemala to Iran, blocked elections in Vietnam, and vastly accelerated the arms race before warning us--belatedly, in fact in his very last speech as president--about the military industrial complex which he did so much to foster. He also gave us Richard Nixon as vice president....

who then succeeded LBJ, kept us in Vietnam an extra four years, bombed, invaded, and basically destroyed civil life in Cambodia, and over threw the democratically elected government of Chile (and gave us Spiro Agnew as vice president and Reinquist as Supreme Court justice). Then too, there was that little to-do at the Watergate....

Given past results, this really doesn't sound to me like very good advise.

that President Obama declare that he wouldn't seek a second term a la Johnson because, you know, he's been such a "polarizing" figure :eyes: and that the Republicans would actually work with him and important things would suddenly get done if he decided to refuse to run again.
:eyes: :puke: :banghead: :wtf:

These guys are dirtbags and are NOT true Democrats!

Have these guys ever paid any attention to Republican's negative campaigning and dirty election tactics? Do they even pay attention to all the garbage and filth their employer spews every day about President Obama, his wife, his family, and Democrats in general. If Hilary were POTUS, they'd be doing the exact same thing to her. Mark.my.words. This article is filled with so much warped logic and pretzel twisting of poll numbers that..............:banghead: Stuff like this leaves me speechless and incoherent.

27. Are there any Republicans out there actually saying
that they'd cooperate with Hillary more than they would Obama? Really? If they think that she'd "cooperate" with the Republicans more then that's even more reason NOT to have her as POTUS as far as I'm concerned. The reality of the matter is that she wouldn't be in office for 5 seconds before they start up the Vince Foster murder conspiracy talk again, drag out the old "Billary" and Chelsea dog jokes and "Obamacare" would suddenly become "Hillarycare", etc. What is extremely galling about these kind of assertions by these guys is that they are basically pulling this stuff out of their butts. Her 69% "approval rating" as SOS (something that has never AFAIK been measured, also has absolutely NO bearing whatsoever on how she would fare as POTUS or even as a candidate for POTUS.

Here's my theory about these two guys: They are Republicans and they want Republicans to win. They, like the rest of the GOP, recognize (privately) that President Obama is going to be a tough candidate to beat next year so they are hoping to figure out some way to get President Obama to withdraw from the race so that they can divide and weaken the Democratic Party (and ticket) enough to have a real shot of winning (good luck with that with their bunch of losers). They would love nothing more than to restart the 2008 slugfest between Obama supporters and Hillary supporters, as well as be able to unload their nuclear arsenal of nastiness and negative campaigning on Hillary in the GE.

This article (like the last one they wrote) is the height of lunacy IMHO.

and can make some comparisons. Obama never has been as bad off as they were against the GOP. I also see recent economic news indicating that Unemployment situation is getting better. If that continues it benefits Obama. I also see the weak GOP field.

48. The big difference is the economy.
Reagan's economy was improving and Bill had the best economy in over 40 years. Obama won't be so lucky. His reelection will depend on circumstances that are mostly out of his control, such as the unemployment rate and the state of the economy. But a year is a lifetime in politics and anything is possible.

34. p.s. They point to Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman not running again
but the big difference between Obama and LBJ and HST is that they were in trouble with the democratic party (McCarthy nearly beat LBJ in NH and HST actually lost NH to Este Kefauver). On the other hand, Obama has no primary opponent (of stature) and poll after poll shows that he is overwhelmingly the choice of Democrats for renomination--unlike LBJ and HST. So their history is faulty.

It's the ones with the microphones and newpaper columns, and their followers, who haven't gotten over it. 38. Here's some interesting info on Caddell...
His analysis on polls and campaign issues often puts him at odds with the current leadership of the Democratic Party. He has been criticized for predicting the downfall of the Democratic party.<7><8> Critics point out that he has defended the Bush administration by arguing that Republicans did not exploit the issue of gay marriage in the presidential election of 2004. He also denounced Democrats in the House who voted against the Palm Sunday Compromise, which sought to reinstate Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, as "cold blooded," and called environmentalism "a conspiracy 'to basically deconstruct capitalism.'"<1> Caddell is a regular guest on Fox News Channel, listed as a Fox News Contributor. This has earned him the label of "Fox News Democrat."<1>

39. I guess they are not going to give up on this
until 2017 or Hillary retires, whichever occurs last.

40. "They" who? Neither one of these guys are fans of
Hillary, in fact Caddell threatened to leave the country if she won the election. I'm sure they're happy to drive that wedge though, too bad some on DU choose to take the bait.

44. You're right, they were not Hillary supporters.
Which makes their disappointment doubly sweet. Ditto for Chris Matthews, he of the tingling leg. He too is down on the dumps over his 2008 choice.

51. Are you seriously saying that Doug Schoen (Mark Penn's buddy) is/was not a Hillary supporter?
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 01:06 PM by jefferson_dem
Caddell is simply a slimy FoxNews' resident "concern troll" posing as a Democratic pollster. No surprise he would glom onto any stupid andt-Democrat narrative of the moment. Neither one has our party's best interest in mind. But you already knew that...

54. Do think Doug Schoen , a hired Fox News goon, co wrote
that article with good intentions toward Hillary or bad intentions toward democrats? The guy is a proven liar:

GOP shills.

68. This was just a desperate attempt by a couple of loser commentators to create a headline.
Its trash journalism at its best.
