in the debate made me both face palm and laugh my ass off at the same time. Why do we even need stand up comedy when watching Republicans debate is hilarious? I guess its because sadness kicks in when you realize these people actually believe the crap they say and would be glad to pursue some of the policies they advocate.

and I was born in Tulsa, though we moved from there shortly after I was born. I was never a Sooner since I wasn't past 8 months when we left.

My sister, however, is conservative, and your typical OK resident. She has her moments, and she's not a horrible person, but I know you probably don't have a lot of folks that share your views. I'm in MS. I'm, once again, in the same boat.

You know what? I'm still a liberal, and will never stop being one despite those around me that try to turn me into a mean-spirited conservative. It will NOT happen.

we are not much of a democracy anymore. Both parties are bought out. We need campaign finance reform, but every time something gets enacted the Supreme Court strikes it down. Buckley v. Valeo, Citizens United v FEC, and Arizona Free Enterprise Club v Bennett to name a few. I'm a registered voter, and I'll vote for Obama in 2012( I'm disappointed with him, but he is better than the alternatives, and I have my job because of him signing ARRA), but voting between two corporate candidates is a downer, Sigh, at least Obama is not as bought out as the Republicans.

here on DU that we need campaign finance reform. I'm not going to argue lesser of two evils, since we all are right there, enthusiastic supporters, or wary voters - the Republicans have blatantly told us they would sell us out, and don't care.

We are Americans. It is up to us to choose what type of governance we will have, and what lengths we will go to get it. Whether we march, knock on doors, make phone calls or write letters, we all choose that path.

I somehow think we have gotten to the march point.

It's not something a lone politician can solve either, it has to be the overbearing will of the people that changes it. It looks like that is happening.

There is a reason for that. :) Under that court it was ruled a mistrial, essentially. Not like pepper spray being a food substance, but rather that that it was not Constitutional to even hear it, if I am not mistaken.

It took a highly conservative court in 2009 to rule in its favor, and now it has come to light that many were in the pay of organizations that specifically wanted that ruling passed.

If I was a Republican, I'd be shitting bricks, since it would be a second term President that could actually push forth a Department of Justice investigation on that. Since he couldn't run anymore, it would frighten the hell out of me if I didn't want that to come to light.

Considering what the Republicans have to offer in the running, does anyone doubt that is going to happen? Things should get very interesting my friend. I very much look forward to it.

I am also terrible.

Yesterday evening, My wife and I stopped at the grocery store around the corner from our house to pick up some last minute Turkey-day stuff (because our guest list rose from a quiet 4 to a joyous 22). Well, my wife and I were still in our work clothes ... me - a Grey pinstripe Suit, White shirt, Tee and perfectly buffed Wing-tips, my wife - a Navy Blue Skirt and Blazer, white Blouse and Cross-trainer athletic shoes (her pumps were in the car).

As we hurriedly shopped (we had to get home for the start of Sons of Anarchy), a woman nearly pushed her cart into my wife. This woman grunted something indistinguishable, but sounded remarkably like, "Get out of my way you Black bitch ... this ain't your side of town."

Now, in all fairness, I may have heard what I assumed she was thinking when I saw she was wearing a "How That Hope and Change Working Out For You?" tee-shirts, and had maybe one tooth in her 40-something mouth.

My wife took one look at the expression you my face and, knowing my likely response to this woman, guided me down the nearest aisle, away from Ms. teabagger. We laughed about it and continued shopping. Then, not 5 mintues later, this same woman rudely pushed past us in the chips aisle.

Then, as my wife and I were debating the relative merits of getting the 20 lbs name-brand turkey versus the generic store brand (vis-a-vis, my culinary skill - I am the household cook), a cart crashed into our cart. I looked up and saw that it was Ms. teabagger and her equally teabaggish-looking male companion. My first impulse was to channel my inner-negro (inside joke) and read this woman the "watch where the f@#% you're going" riot act (and my wife was bracing herself for it, because it wasn't going to be pretty) ... but I looked directly at her, gestured to her tee-shirt and said (in a rather loud voice), "It's working well for me and only the most partisan or ignorant amongst us aren't seeing it. Right now, I'm gainfully employed and so is my wife; I can't keep up with my employer's staffing needs, so I suspect we are having a great quarter ... And my daughter just won a small college scholarship for an essay that she wrote on how having a Black president has positively affected her life. So it's working out well for me ... Thanks for asking. My only hope is that in this season of thanksgiving, more people will turn of fox news and realize that President Obama's fight and my fight is your fight."

Mr. and Ms. teabagger just looked around, and seeing several people kind of smiling, grabbed their cart (full of hamburger helper, Top Ramien and store brand soda) and beat a hasty exit. My wife, for her part, commented - laughingly, "Wow ... You didn't even say one bad word."
