DNC wields Newt Gingrich immigration answer against Mitt Romney

The Democratic National Committee has produced a post-debate video suggesting Newt Gingrich, and not Mitt Romney, is being "honest" on immigration:
The theme - that Romney is not a Republican with whom Latino voters should feel comfortable - is not a new one for the DNC.
What makes this video more striking, though, than the usual anti-Romney tape, is how openly this one applauds Gingrich's answer on immigration. If the former House speaker ends up as the Republican presidential nominee, he'll be able to point to his position as a sign of moderation and friendliness toward Latino voters.
But running against Gingrich is not an eventuality that Democrats fear, and the party remains focused, pretty much exclusively, on wearing down Romney as a potential general election opponent.
The framing of the lead question - "Who is being honest" about immigration? - also underscores how character-driven the Democratic campaign against Romney has been. It's not just about Romney's political views. It's about the personal trustworthiness of the candidate.
