Trump Lambasts Paul
Trump blasts Paul for smacking him in forum-skip

Donald Trump apparently didn't take kindly to Ron Paul's decision to skip the NewsMax-hosted forum moderated by the developer and reality TV star, saying it created a circus-like atmosphere around the presidential race.

"As I said in the past and will reiterate again, Ron Paul has a zero chance of winning either the nomination or the presidency," Trump said in a statement in response to Paul, adding, "my poll numbers were substantially higher than any of his poll numbers, at any time."

"Few people take Ron Paul seriously and many of his views and presentation make him a clown-like candidate," he said. "I am glad he and Jon Huntsman, who has inconsequential poll numbers or a chance of winning, will not be attending the debate and wasting the time of the viewers who are trying very hard to make a very important decision."

Trump referred to his book that's coming out and his claim he is worth more than $7 billion, and asked why he is "not the right person to lead this country out of economic chaos or at least to moderate a debate. I would like to see how Ron Paul would fair in the world of big business."

Paul was the first candidate competing in Iowa to reject the invitation for the Dec. 27 event. His move may give cover to other candidates to do the same - although Trump's comments are a reminder of the potential problem with skipping it.

1. I guess it takes a "clown-like candidate" to know one
Edited on Sat Dec-03-11 08:00 PM by rocktivity
Which is all the more reason why Trump shouldn't be moderating a debate.

4. And the GOP circus continues
Trump is a joke, pure and simple. I admire Paul for telling him what he did, and if any of the other "clowns" had a brain they would tell trump NO also, but then again we know they don't have a brain!

6. Trump: "My penis is bigger than Ron Paul's penis"
He really has a fragile little ego doesn't he. All this vitriol just because Paul decided not to waste his time on Trump's silly ass debate.

Which will turn out to be a chance for Trump to demonstrate to the world that he still would be a better candidate than the rest of these clowns.

9. Well it is a pretty sad cast of characters
But Trump doesn't have the cojones to go up against anyone of them in a direct contest. So the best way for him to salvage his pride is to master all of them from the moderator's chair in his very own debate where he gets to control the questions and have the last word.

15. He's a racist assclown, himself, And a liar.
The scary conservative--because he comes off as "normal, even for a Mormon"--is Huntsman. Between the beautiful daughters and his charming family, and the enjoyment of motorcycles, and the plain-spoken and pleasant attitude, he's like the guy next door.

He is the one who is the real dark horse in all this mess!

21. That wasn't my point. I'm well aware of what/who he is.
So I'll try again. My sense of it is he's the only one in the race who is not whipping around to pander to the polls and pundits, who is standing behind his convictions and beliefs in what would make this country better. Granted, his convictions and beliefs scare and sicken me, but again, that wasn't my point.

24. Ah, I see what you mean. I suppose he might be sincere, but I think his "straight talk"
is more of an affectation to substitute for campaign cash that will garner him a bit of attention, free publicity and all that swell "viral" stuff.

"Look at me, I'm different from the rest, I'm a straight-shooting curmudgeon who speaks plainly and appeals to the youth, because I am a quirky old man who won't regulate the pot and wants to turn the Pentagon into a parking garage!"

Never mind that he makes up stories about aborted babies in trash cans, and is beloved by White Citizens...!

I think it's more of an appearance of not pandering, than actual 'not pandering.' He's trying to be the plain-spoken quirky outsider-maverick on an uphill cimb who appeals to "cool kids who understand him" and people who dislike the government in general, and racists (but shhhh--they need to keep that on the DL); that's his schtick. IMO, anyway.

"Few people take Ron Paul seriously and many of his views and presentation make him a clown-like candidate,"

The very same could be said of Trump, exchanging the word candidate for narcissist.

17. Trump calling Paul a "clown like candidate" is like Michelle Bachmann calling Sarah Palin stupid.
Can the Republican primary race possibly get any more entertaining than it has been? I keep worrying that Newt will flame out and Mitt will jump out in front and it will just get boring after that.

but he has to do cheesy reality shows and craptacular ads to keep from filing for bankruptcy again.

It's amazing how fast he managed to blow all his dad's money.
