Bachmann to Oppose Renewal of Payroll-Tax Cut.
WASHINGTON – To the list of Republicans coming out against renewing an expiring payroll tax cut, add presidential contender Michele Bachmann.

On CNN’s ‘State of the Union,” the Minnesota House member complained that the tax cut “blows a hole” in the Social Security trust fund and “it didn’t help to create jobs.” She noted that she voted against the tax break last year, when it cleared Congress as part of a deal that also extended Bush-era tax cuts.

1. I'm thinking this might be a republican ploy to keep the payroll tax cut.
They are too on target here.

2. Maybe you should start wondering when you and Michele Bachmann are on the same side
and every liberal economist in the country is on the other side.

3. And maybe you do not understand the situation.
We need to look at the long view, not just your own pay checks.
The payroll tax cuts may help now, but they will hurt on the long run when it come time to pay out.
The tax cut is a subtle device for an edge to help destroy Social Security and Medicare. Why do you think they were set up to be separately funded and not part of the general fund in any way? So Congress would not be involved in the operating funds come budget time.

6. 1 year payroll tax holiday = $180 billion. 1 year Bush tax cut extension = $400 billion.
Please tell me you don't really believe the Republicans want this payroll tax holiday that benefits millions of working class Americans.

7. And what happens down the road when Social Security starts to run out of money?
This is the first real step to gutting Social Security. Is that what you want?
The make up funds are coming out of the general fund. That means it is subject to the annual Congressional budget. That should give you night mares if you think you will need S/S when you retire.
You really need to think long term with this.

8. No, it's not, and being paranoid doesn't help your case.
Particularly when, as noted, you're on the side with Michelle Bachmann and against every liberal economist in the country.

5. What's interesting is that now they're concerned about SS?
I swear, the Republicans are starting to use anti-Obama left wing talking points as if they've owned them all along.

The reason the Republicans want the payroll tax cut to expire is to delay any recovery (if any) and to make the poorest people hurt badly (a certainty).

Remember, their sole goal in all of this is to oust Obama, nothing else matters.
