Don’t Believe Ron Paul!
Only because the rest of the GOP field of Presidential candidates is so terrible, there is actually a possibility that Ron Paul might win the Iowa Caucuses, as he has concentrated almost all his efforts there. Ron Paul has never mattered, and in all probability, never will. But just in case, it’s important that you understand that Paul is not the person he presents himself to be, as this excellent article by Tim Murphy clearly demonstrates.

…Paul might just win Iowa. As Red State founder Erick Erickson points out , he’s worked the state harder than almost anyone else and honed his message to appeal to corn belt conservatives (the raw milk line is a winner). But that doesn’t make him a serious contender. As Politico’s Maggie Haberman and others have pointed out, Paul’s candidacy has a clear ceiling. Until his opponents start talking about the following issues, you’ll know Paul isn’t a serious threat:

The newsletters: Since 1978, Paul published and sold a newsletter (known alternatively as Ron Paul’s Political Report, Ron Paul’s Survival Report, and Ron Paul’s Freedom Report) to tens of thousands of libertarians scattered across the country. Especially in the beginning, it played into the concerns of a certain kind of conservative white guy. As the New Republic reported, the newsletters suggest Paul is "not the plain-speaking antiwar activist his supporters believe they are backing—but rather a member in good standing of some of the oldest and ugliest traditions in American politics." Some excerpts:

" we are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational. Black men commit murders, rapes, robberies, muggings and burglaries all out of proportion to their numbers."

"Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the ‘criminal justice system,’ I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal."

"lack males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary, and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such."

--snip--

Now, this is just the section in Murphy’s article that deals with Paul’s racism. In addition Murphy exposes Paul on civil rights, scorched earth policies, conspiracy theories, and women’s rights. I strongly urge you to click through for the rest of it.

4. I think it's the initial rush of hearing his stances
I don't see a lot of support for RP on DU... Yeah, there is agreement with his anti-war and pro-legalization stances but not a willingness to vote for the asshole. Outside of DU though, I think the reason he gets support from the left is because of the same reason so many people believe whatever they hear on the nightly news... They do not pay attention enough. People hear and believe what is said loudest and most often and tend to do very little looking for themselves. It is a very unfortunate situation and one of the biggest reasons we really need independent media.

22. Paultards don't care...
You point out anything like this to a Paultard and they immediately dismiss it. Tell them that despite voting against pork and earmarks, he constantly adds pork and earmarks into must-pass bills - then votes against them to maintain his reputation and they'll say he's just returning tax dollars to his constituents. I've even had friends who I thought were progressive defend the racist stuff as being true and saying that blacks should lighten up regarding those statements. There's a cultlike atmosphere around Paul that is downright creepy - says this unabashed Obama supporter :-)

"Don’t Believe Ron Paul!"

He claims to be anti-war and he voted against the Patriot Act.

Except for the fact that he's a racist anti-government demagogue, he's almost indistinguishable from Russ Feingold. (Do I need the sarcasm icon?)

-In Your Guts, You Know He's Nuts-

The bat-shit crazy Representative Paul is right on a couple of issues and that makes him stand out from the Republican crowd who are wrong on every issue. This wack job named his son after Ayn Rand, the bitter, serial killer admiring, lunatic and guru of the conservative movement in this country.

see: http://bureaucountydems.blogspot.com/2011/06/ayn-rand-gop-and-jesus.html

AYN RAND, THE GOP AND JESUS
Who Is Ayn Rand?
-Watch these two video links and learn the disturbing truth-

http://youtu.be/0TxCWbTqz9s
http://youtu.be/s7zwO88nRH8

She was against religion and God. She embraced selfishness. She was fascinated with serial killer William Hickman, and wrote that the serial killer was an ideal man as he did what he pleased not worrying what others thought.
Oh, and she is a darling and prophet of today's Republican party. Go figure.

7. When I see a Ron Paul bumper sticker on a car
I feel almost certain the owner has no idea who Ron Paul is. They think he's just an anti-war Republican like them. Some of them would agree with that racist part of him I bet though.

His whole schtick is "Let's get rid of laws that protect black people."

9. I honestly think that Ron Paul is the one I fear the most. He is very
willing to lie in order to win and he knows enough about human nature (especially white human nature) to know what buttons to push. Raygun and W both had that ability.

12. My grandson who is in college likes him but all he really knows about
him is the few things we would all agree with: end the wars (which he would not do once the MIC got hold of him) and legalize marijuana (which he also would not do because he probably could not get the votes for it). When I told him about that patient who Paul would just let die my grandson said, "I am more interested in my freedoms than health care - this from a kid who has lifetime insurance).

I am afraid that we have a few greedy students who are not really interested in the rest of the people.

Edited on Sat Dec-10-11 01:24 PM by emulatorloo
They are tired of for example the whole anti-gay marriage bullshit.

So they are projecting a lot of themselves on Paul. They seem to think he is liberal on social issues.

15. As your OP properly notes, he's been preparing for this for a long time
I was barely old enough to drown my sorrows in 1978, and I remember a co-worker coming along in Seattle with Paul's newsletter. Fortunately, it was easily dismissed BS, but I've seen many, many people influenced by it in the intervening decades.

He's got to realize this is his very last shot at grabbing the brass ring, and since he's got incredible odds against it happening, I expect that he's going to be pretty desperate when he goes after Newt and Mitt tonight in the debate. I do hope that he gets enough of a proportional share of delegates to keep either one of them from getting a first ballot victory in Tampa next summer. The infighting in the Repuke party will be wonderful to watch.

But Paul himself didn't write that. It was one of his writers for the newsletter, and Paul said regrets he didn't screen it properly.

19. Another very important FACT about Ron Paul...
What Ron Paul does not tell people outright now but has written on it in the past...

He wants to do away with the 14th Amendment or what is called he "Incorporation Doctrine" that forces States to comply with the Bill of Rights...Ron Paul talks all this BS about "Individual Freedom" but in reality he is only talking about that in terms of the Federal Government!

Basically he would like to turn America into 50 small countries with little to no central governing body. SCARY STUFF!

He would LOVE to be able to set up a State like Texas where there are Christian test to run for office, women no longer have authority over their own bodies, the disabled & handicapped will find themselves not being able to get in buildings because Libertarians think private business should not be told how they have to build their buildings & who know what would be of all non-Christians & especially non-whites.

I really fear how many young people think Ron Paul is the way to go basically due to his foreign policy ideas...And to some degree his stance on the FED. They have no clue about who he really is, his past & what he would like to do to America.

24. Come on now..
Edited on Mon Dec-12-11 02:32 AM by zforce
Come on now...Really? Sad day when people are unable to just look at a man and know just how much sincerity and integrity a man has. When I look at Ron Paul no matter for better or worse, I know he is telling the truth and he truly wants to bring this country back on course via the constitution. The man doesn't have 1 racist bone in his body, I mean come on, he wants to decriminalize drugs thus freeing from federal prison a large population of the minority. The racists here are the ones who made the unconstitutional laws and the ones who still support it(hmmm). Moreover, he wants (and WILL) to end the wars against the 3rd world which is predominately made up of darker skin, the racists here are the ones who support the unconstitutional wars and the ones who STILL support it(hmmm).

Now to the letter, first and foremost:

Austin NAACP President Nelson Linder Defends Ron Paul and says Paul being smeared because he is a threat to the establishment(obviously).(stated personal opinion as a citizen and not president of NAACP)

Basically:

Asked directly if Ron Paul was a racist, Linder responded "No I don't," adding that he had heard Ron Paul speak out about police repression of black communities and mandatory minimum sentences on many occasions.

Dr. Paul has also publicly praised Martin Luther King as his hero on many occasions spanning back 20 years.

"I've read Ron Paul's whole philosophy, I also understand what he's saying from a political standpoint and why people are attacking him," said Linder.

"If you scare the folks that have the money, they're going to attack you and they're going to take it out of context," he added.

"What he's saying is really really threatening the powers that be and that's what they fear," concluded the NAACP President.

1st interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk9HSMB-YaU
2nd Interview: http://prisonplanet.com/audio/130108linder.mp3

And lastly, the letters were written during a time that Ron Paul was out of politics and back working at his medical practice as an OBGYN. He states that he didn't even read them or know what was being written in them and as to that issue he is sorry for not being more engaged with something with his name on it. Obviously he trusted Lew Rockwell who was basically running the newsletter at the time and probably thought he would stick to the same message as to when he was in in office.

Ron Paul doesn't judge people in groups, he is an individualist (judge a person by the content of their character not the color of their skin/religion etc...)

I could go on and on but really if people can't look at Dr. Paul and see a genuine, straight-talking individual then there really is NO HOPE for you.

One more story before I go:

http://www.chron.com/news/article/In-third-White-House-bid-Paul-s-message-the-same-2393929.php#page-2

It was a busy office; often, Paul would deliver four babies in a single night, and in the course of his career, he estimates he brought more than 4,000 babies into the world.

There was minor shock in the office when Paul informed the staff they would no longer participate in the federal Medicaid or Medicare programs.

"People will pay as they can," scrub nurse Donna White, who later married her boss's youngest brother, recalls the doctor saying. "And if they can't, that's fine."

One family, she says, paid him in fresh-caught shrimp.
