President Obama announces his policies are extension of his faith in Christ (Mitt can't be happy)

At the prayer breakfast, Pres. Obama said his policies reflect his faith, and although I don't agree with all of his policies I share the same faith, and see him far more as reflecting Christ's teachings of caring for the sick and downtrodden in society than Mitt. I also think this could be construed as a shrewd political move, as I am a midwesterner and there are plenty of GOP people from my old stomping grounds who believe Mormonism is a cult. Obama stating his policies are effected by the teachings of Christ (how much is an argument for another day), puts Mittens in a bind, because if Romney starts into religious discussion about his faith, it will push out the fact that not a vast majority of voters know, that he's Mormon. It's a wise move IMO. It shows a contrast between the two men that many people, honestly (even if they shouldn't) are persuaded by when voting.

WASHINGTON - Blending politics and religion, President Barack Obama said his Christian faith is a driving force behind his economic policies, from Wall Street reform to his calls for the wealthy to pay higher taxes.

Obama's remarks Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast were his most explicit account of how his personal religious beliefs factor into his decision-making on the nation's pressing problems. The comments came amid election-year criticism from Catholic groups and some Republicans that the president is waging a war on religion following his decision to require church-affiliated institutions to cover free birth control for employees.

Speaking to more than 3,000 people at the annual breakfast, Obama said "faith and values" should play as much as role in tackling the nation's challenges as sound decision-making and smart policies.

'Use those blessings'

He said, for example, that his own call for fairness in the tax code - a central tenet of his State of the Union address and his 2012 campaign - is both economically sound and consistent with the teachings of Jesus.

For example, Mormons reject the traditional Christian concept of the Trinity. They believe God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are three separate divine entities sharing a common purpose.

In addition to the Bible, a collection of modern-day revelations and other prophetic writings, the Mormon Scripture also includes the Book of Mormon, a chronicle of events in the Americas where, Mormons believe, Jesus returned after his Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Baptism or the washing away of sins is a rite not just for the living but also the dead. Posthumous baptisms are done inside temples on behalf of the departed so they still have the opportunity to become Mormon in the afterlife.

Polygamy was set aside in 1890 by mainstream Mormons. But some Mormons believe it still exists in the afterlife, and self-proclaimed Fundamentalist Mormons (not part of the mainstream church) still practice it today.

Then there's the claim that Mormons can become gods of their own planets. Mormons say everyone should aim to become godlike. The particulars of how that unfolds are unknown.

Funnel govt money to the rich, and let the rest of the people pick up the crumbs, to the extent that there are are any. When is the average Democrat going to wake up? 3. I liked it better when Presidents talked less about their faith

It's annoying/cloying enough when football players and Grammy winners do it, but there is no Establishment clause in their contracts.

The Constitution specifies that there shall be no religious test for the Presidency. Obama needs to stop acting as though it says only believers in Jesus should be President.

P.S. Although I am not a churchgoer, I am not an atheist or an agnostic, either. Not that it should matter when discussing politics, but I feel obliged to note that I am saying this because of my belief in separation of church and state, not because I am angry at believers.
