Quinnipiac Poll: Only 36% approve of HCR bill; 56% want public option; 64% want Medicare for all

--Voters "mostly disapprove" of the proposed health care plan 53 - 36 percent and disapprove 56 - 38 percent of President Barack Obama's handling of the health care issue

--Voters also oppose 72 - 23 percent using any public money in the health care overhaul to pay for abortions

--Voters also disapprove 51 - 44 percent of President Obama's handling of the economy and disapprove 56 - 37 percent of the way he is creating jobs

--Voters favor 52 - 42 percent his plan to use $200 billion left over from the bank bailout for a new stimulus package to create jobs rather than to reduce the budget deficit

--Looking at the health care plan, independent voters "mostly disapprove" 58 - 30 percent, as do Republicans 83 - 10 percent. Democrats "mostly approve" 64 - 22 percent

--Voters support 56 - 38 percent giving people the option of coverage by a government health insurance plan and back 64 - 30 percent allowing younger people to buy into Medicare

5. The question is what they were voting on in those polls

With so much misinformation about HCR I doubt anyone can put any faith in these polls as real expressions of public opinion.

It will be up to Obama and the Democrats in Congress to lay out HCR in a way that everyone can clearly understand once it is finalized. Until then these polls will be meaningless.

I favor a public option and/or a Medicare buy in but I support the Senate bill because I believe it is a very large step in the right direction though severely flawed.

I support the Senate bill because I have had the benefit of a lot of information about it and what it will do particularly for the poor and uninsured but I seriously doubt the general public is as informed as I am or everyone who comes to DU. That's why I believe that once the bill is passed and signed there will be a full explanation of all of its good points that may change polling numbers significantly.

It's hard to keep up. I have never seen an idea rise and die so fast in DC like the Medicare expansion plan did. And we still don't know what the end product is going to be.
