How can the republicans still be allowed to claim they are fiscally responsible
when they supported off budget funding for the endless wars we have been engaged in...

Voted and supported an unfunded Medicare Prescription Drug plan...

Voted for massive tax cuts without cutting any expenses...

Yep, these guys are fiscally responsible...

Down to the bone...

So how come the new Administration is dealing with record deficits...

1. Because their base is stupid and they don't care if republicans lie
Just as long as their not communistic, socialistic nonwhite people.

The GOP to the base: Government does not work, put us in charge and we will prove it.

3. Bush wasn't fiscally responsible...
I think Republicans are largely aware of that and that's why Republicans lost so bad in '06 and '08.

Are you ranting as much about the excessive spending incurred by the Obama administration? I know I am.

5. But why is the Obama administration spending so much money?
If he had entered office with a trillion dollar surplus in place, American made cars flying off the lots and business looking up would said administration need to spend so much?

The republican solution to what really happened in January 2009 would be to lower taxes and let the market destroy GM and Chrysler.

7. Sounds like the same excuses Bush made...
There's a recession, I have to cut taxes!

Terrorists are going to use Afghanistan as a homeland if we don't establish some security over there!

Iraq is going to supply terrorists with nuclear weapons if we don't remove Saddam Hussein! (yes, this was his weakest one)

Seniors can't afford their drugs, we have to give them assistance!

Our nations educational system sucks, we have to try to fix it from the top down! (The no child left behind program was one of the largest social programs we've done historically. I particularly hate this one, even more than the Iraq war. I just think education should be a local, at the very most, state effort).

There's always a reason to spend money. A politician finding yet another reason to spend money never excites me. I'd love to see a politician find a way not to spend money. And, Obama hasn't done any better a job than Bush did. Obama still has time though, we'll see...

6. Wasn't it more about the Iraq War in '06...?
And Mark Foley's indiscretions meant the Repubs didn't have family values to fall back on.

8. Yeah, it was all of that...
But, from what I remember, conservatives were furious about the deficit in the '04 election. Both Kerry and Bush made the claim they would cut the deficit by half. I still remember the dark look in Cheney's eyes when he made that claim in his debate with Edwards.

It was all just lip service. Neither knew how they were going to cut the deficit.

Obama and McCain did the same dance. Both said they would balance the budget. McCain was up there saying he'd eliminate pork, and that would go along way towards deficit reduction. Don't get me wrong, I hate pork and admire that McCain has never once gotten pork from Washington the whole time he's been up there. But, pork is like what, 2-3% of the federal budget. Obama had some pet projects that were as trivial as McCain's he said he was going to use to cut the deficit. Neither of them had good ideas on how to do it.

But yeah, Foley, Iraq war that had not only been unnecessary, but so poorly managed the 1st 3 years, the deficit, and as I remember, Tom Delay convictions were also working against the Republicans. I'm pretty sure Delay was the '06 elections. All that had to do with their defeat.

15. The whole cost of the war was "off" the books...
Today's deficit is as deep as it is because The President is being realistic and including everything on the budget that was passed while he was a
Senator...

The next budget, President Obama's first budget, will be presented for a first look sometime in March and take effect in October.

In 2004, the conservatives were in control of the whole shebang, they were complaining about a budget that they proposed, vetted and passed...

4. I've yet to get a "patriot" to answer a simple question
Why weren't there tea parties when the white guy was in the oval office wiping out a surplus and running up a deficit? Why in this past year are "Patriots" all of a sudden concerned about the economy. Because glen beck tells them to be?.?

Disclosure: I'm a white guy who thinks conservatives are domestic enemies of the constitution and conservative values are toxic.

9. The only way the can--- the media lets them get away with it.
Can anybody here tell us just where or why or when we have heard one thing about the way the republicans ran up the debt, why they were still responsible for part of the debt incurred this year. The media does not print, publish or air any thing negative about republicans.

11. They can claim whatever they want - doesn't make it truth.
It's the media's job to point out the lies and inconsistencies with their claims, but they never do.

If it was you'd see Obama taking a WAY bigger hit than he is in the polls.

Rabid wingnuts aside the independants and most swing voters know the GOP held the gov't for 8 years and didn't do a damn thing about any of our problems.

That is why despite Obama not really doing so hot and not really being that good the GOP even looks WORSE.

They've actually had to resort to elaborate narratives that blame the dems for current problems even though they were basically shut out of doing anything for 8 years. The true believer GOP believes it, just like democrats think Obama is still a progressive. But the middle knows better.

In the late 70's early 80's there WERE some problems that the conservative ideas worked on. However I don't think there are ANY current problems the conservatives have a good plan for. In fact I don't think there may be a conservative solution because so much of the problem today is due to conservative ideas taken too far.
