Griffith, D-Huntsville, officially announced his decision to switch to the GOP in a 1 p.m. press conference at his home. Griffith, a medical doctor, cited his opposition to the health care reform bill and the national debt as two factors that led to his decision.

“I now believe I have to go further and stand with a party that is more in tune with my beliefs and convictions,” Griffith said. “This was not an easy decision for me.

“I take this step because I believe our nation is at a crossroads and I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt.”

Griffith voted with Republicans on major issues such as health care reform, the “cap and trade” climate bill, Obama’s first budget and the stimulus bill.

Against Health, cap and trade, the budget and stimulus bill. Having him with a D on his ticket was nothing but a betrayal to those who voted for the Democratic Party.

He objects to the pursuit of legislation that is bad for America, hurts the economy and drives the Country further in to debt by joining the Party that did exactly that? What a brain he shows.

He is applauded by neo fascist thugs like Pamela Geller. Wow, great company.

Can Senator Liarman follow this non-entity so that the media can stop spreading the myth that the Democratic Party has 60 votes in the Senate?

I suspect he ran as a dem last year because he knew repubs were going to be blown away. I hope he loses re-election.

So they are sure to love him. Although after 8 years of Bush emptying the tills for years to come, the Bush Democrats are now more right wing than the sane ones left the GOP. Where was their concern for deficits when Bush was in charge?
