28. Single payer is not the only proven system...

It may be the most commonly proved system, but it's not the only one. The Netherlands is the country in Europe with the highest satisfaction rating. Their system provides universal coverage and all insurance is provided by private companies. Now, those insurance companies are much more highly regulated than those in the USA, but they are still private.

Democratic Senator of Oregon, Ron Wyden, wrote a health reform bill for the US which was based on the Netherlands system. It had very good bipartisan support before the current way of just jimmy-sawing everything together started to get pushed through and ended up as a straight party-line vote. That's a great thing. We need a foot in the door as someone said.

This country still has a lot of completely irrational conservatives to battle on every issue, a lot of people who live in very liberal areas of the country have no idea what even the local media is like in red states. A lot of these people would do anything to stop any and all steps toward progressive ideas, aid for anyone, and secular government. It is a daily battle in the south.
