Medicare Part D disallows price negotiations, has a donut hole, is confusing and complicated, and adds hundreds of billions to the deficit. There was plenty of screeching at the time that bill was being debated in Congress, but now that it has passed and has been in effect Hamsher and Co. don't say a word. Why aren't they out chanting in the streets day and night to repeal it as a horrid boon for big pharma? As I recall, the majority of the public at some point was opposed to it (correct me if I'm wrong). (I didn't like much of it but supported it in the end as some kind of start to help the elderly. My feeling was that it was the best we could get with the PUKES in charge, and that rather than obstructing at all costs we needed to get what we could and then win more elections which have their consequences. That we did. Now we can start to fix Medicare D.) Where is the outrage now? Not that the program doesn't have its many flaws, but, again, it was some kind of a start, and the new health bill begins to properly pay for the program and fills the donut hole. That is what you do. Get a start, then tweak it for the better over time.
Interesting. Very interesting.
