How is it "inflammatory and divisive"
to point out that LGBT people are one of the Democratic Party's most dependable constituencies and that if all Americans were as loyal our party would win every election every time?

I doubt that it would be considered "inflammatory and divisive" to argue that Democrats would be unbeatable if all Americans voted for the party in the same proportions as African-Americans, Jews, organized labor, etc.

With respect, what is "inflammatory and divisive" are the attempts to blame gay people for electoral losses that are an unfortunate DU tradition. I hope that we will address this issue in our upcoming discussion on LGBT issues on this site, because it is one of the chief sources of conflict here.

1. In the future, if you ask a question about a post, it would be helpful if you included a link.
But I found the thread. I think it's apparent what the mods were thinking: We've already had a bunch of threads about some LGBT people not voting Democratic, and they did not turn out so well. But I don't think that is a good enough reason to lock your thread.

I don't think it should have been locked. Seeing as the thread was posted on Monday, it's probably too late for me to reopen. Sorry about that.

As you probably know, the new moderator term started yesterday. We are going to have a conference call with the moderators tonight, and we are going to spend a lot of time talking about what threads should or should not be locked, so this type of thing is less likely in the future.

2. Thank you, Skinner.
I appreciate your looking into this, and I also appreciate your bringing back the Ask the Administrators forum. I think it has already made a difference in the tone around here.

3. I'm glad you think it has made a difference.
We were hoping that would happen if we brought it back.

4. I think this forum is helping to restore the sense of community
that many of us remember from the early days of this site.
