progressives who are unhappy with Obama vote for a third-party or even Republican (who is honest about what they want) candidate in 2012?

Here's the basic principle: DON'T HELP THE REPUBLICAN.
Which means:
Voting for the most progressive candidate with a chance of winning, in order to maximize your chances of defeating the Republican: Permitted.
Voting for a third-party spoiler candidate who could split the progressive vote and throw the election to the Republican: Not permitted.
