Several years ago, unless my memory is really playing tricks on me, there was a DU Activist Corps. Basically, you joined and an event was announced where DUers could do something, en masse, to make their voices heard...write letters to the editor, their Congress people, etc.
It was a good idea. And it still is.
As I reintegrate myself back into Democratic Underground, I'd like to see something like this again. I think it would do some good and give people the sense that they're making a difference. I sort of see that kind of dynamic on Facebook....FB friends will announce something going on in Congress and will mobilize people to lobby their Congressional reps. A timely case in point...repeal of DADT. I've contacted people in Congress about doing the right thing on DADT repeal. But it's important to have groups of people doing this as well. A reincarnation of the DU Activist Corps would help.
Maybe this is a stupid idea. I don't know.
Thanks for reading this.
