The best scenario would have been to bring him in alive. If we would have imprisoned him, he could have been shown on a daily basis and used as a propaganda tool that would of seriously disheartened his followers.

Killing him just angers his supporters and renews their vigor. They're emerging from a long winter with plenty of time to train and resupply. Killing him will motivate them more than any other action their own side could of taken.
