Poll question: Okay, I keep seeing post after post saying this is the end of the War on Terror,

and that the troops will come home now, and TSA can stop porno scanning and groping us, and we can pour Pentagon money into domestic problems at last.

How many of you SERIOUSLY believe this? I mean, seriously?

3. There will be more threats, more attacks, more retaliation.
But I'm hoping (without much expectation) that perhaps this could be the beginning of the end of our decade-long failed attempt to fight terrorism by military means, by mass-scale occupation of foreign countries.

4. that's not a very realistic view of what this death means
but this moment gives us the impetus to step back from the paranoia. nations have been dealing with terrorism for decades without becoming police states.

we, as a nation, can use this moment to reassess our direction - these sorts of moments are openings to create better policy b/c fear is not the chief motivator.

8. Osama hasn't been running things for a long time
Al Queda de-centralized, became a franchise operation, with many independent operators in many different countries.

His unfortunate legacy will go on, carried out by others.

9. I voted "Are you kidding," but I disagree with the phrasing of the rest of it . . .
The second option reads:
Are you kidding? The military and Homeland Security will be ON THE JOB because of continued threats and likely attempts at retaliation.

I would have written something like this:

Are you kidding? The private defense contracting industry, aided and abetted by their friends among the military brass, will be showering lobbying money on members of Congress in order to make sure their cash cow is extended for many years to come.
