"30 to 40" Navy SEALs
When 30 to 40 pissed-off US Navy SEALs land on your roof, I assure you- you're going to have a bad day.

8. Yep. I've always said so.
A week after 9/11 we should have dropped a company of Rangers on bin Laden's training camp, along with some SEALS and other specials ops, and told the the Taliban "Keep out of this - it has nothing to do with you" (two minutes AFTER they landed). Bag & tag em, and bring him to the States.

It would have spared hundreds of thousands of lives.

WTF do we have 900 bases around the world when it still takes six weeks for a 'rapid response'?

19. everybody - especially the powers that be - were well aware of that
Neither of the wars had fuck all to do with 9/11, and all the millions of protesting people around the world were very well aware of that.

4. I just think of the guys I know personally who rang out of BUDS training.
If they didn't make it, the ones who did have got to be just amazing.

With about a week to go in BUDS training. He tried desperately not to let them know, he wanted it so bad. But it's pretty hard to hide a broken wrist in the rigors of that training.

9. Hint to Terrorists hiding out on "safe houses"
Make sure no one can land a chopper on your lawn or your roof.

10. They had drawn
A picture of a helicopter with a circle around it and a line thru it. Bastards just ignored it.

17. I believe a Blackhawk can hold up to 12 people plus the crew.
Wikipedia says 14 plus crew, but I'm not sure if that is fully-equipped or not. Full combat gear adds like 80 pounds to each soldier. Maybe more.

Of course, they probably wanted to leave some room to take back a prisoner and some intelligence.

12. Not to dis the Navy Seals, but this was basically a SWAT ....
...operation and should have been handled as a legal, not military, action from the beginning.

13. SWAT teams usually don't go up against people sporting RPG's, machine guns
And suicide vests.

Plus, after the raid they needed people to gather sensitive information from the compound to learn more about AQ's operations. I'm not sure if SWAT teams usually do such things.

16. A SWAT team is militaristic.
They are trained to handle special, generally violent, circumstances.

The SEALs are an embodiment of the same philosophy. Just magnified by several orders of magnitude. They face threats that no SWAT team will ever see.

21. SWAT? Knife to a gunfight anyone?
Comparing SEAL Team Members and SWAT is like comparing hammers and sponges. Or golf balls and whiffle balls. Or white sharks and whale sharks.

Remember the shootout in Hollywood a few years back? SWAT wasn't even a factor in that one. Two guys with automatic weapons held a city hostage for HOURS til one killed himself and the other put himself into an untenable situation.

You might not have dissed SEAL Team 6 in your post, but boy, you sure did SWAT a disservice. SWAT's great for ending family hostage situations and the like, but for an operation a world away in industrial strength hostile territory? I'll take SEALS.

18. It's difficult to see how it could be othewise.
"Oh, look! The Navy SEALs are here! I'll go brew some coffee and set out some cookies" is not the typical response.
