Whoopee! The "Boogeyman" is dead. Or is he?
Edited on Mon May-02-11 01:18 PM by Cyrano
So how long before we see a new one? Ever since the truly horrible, unthinkable events of 9/11, we've been looking for someone to blame -- and kill. Well, we evidently killed the guy responsible. But we seem to have missed the fact that 9/11 wasn't caused by one man. It was caused by theological fanaticism against capitalism in general, and us in particular.

So does the death of the "boogeyman" end all of our problems?

Please listen to me.

Our problems today are the result of only a very small amount of foreign "terrorism". Most of our agony is due to the greed, arrogance, power and ultimate "ownership of everything," held by global corporations. They own our congress, our courts, our votes and everything else. As a matter of fact, "foreign terrorism" is a godsend that adds to the wealth of the military industrial complex (also known as the tremendously rich and powerful).

There are always going to be Osama Bin Laden's out there. What needs to be slain is the concept that our problems are caused by some foreign "boogeyman."

The financial strain and pain that we are feeling today is caused by those among us who would own everything and everybody.

1. Actually it is caused by the system that encourages
this behavior - Capitalism. +1 for your efforts, though I suspect they will fall on deaf ears today.

19. Yes, Obama is a badass, the Navy Seals rock, and you're
no safer now than you were two seconds ago.

The greatest threat to you, me and every other American is our military-industrial complex of never-ending greed. They will suck out every last pint of blood and every last cent that we own. They are our enemies. Don't let the death of one a single horrible monster distract you. This world has no shortage of horrible monsters. And most of them live in Washington and in our State Capitols.

9. If we could convince 200,000,000 more Americans
TO THINK instead of believing the bull shit they are spoon fed daily, we might have a chance as a nation.

The one question that's been on my mind since 9/11 is "If they hate us so much, why haven't there been more attacks on American soil?".

Getting in to America is not a challenge nor is acquiring weapons. A hand full of Jihadist armed with Uzis could kill thousands with little effort. Pop out of a van at lunch hour in any major city and you've got loads of targets.

Our enemy is greed. Has been for the past 40 years.

18. I've often wondered the same thing

...and they wouldn't even need UZI's, bombs, hijackings or anything so complicated. Imagine what a half dozen terrorists with rental cars could do in a crowded urban festival - they could just run people down. The problem is that even though the jihadists are brutal and inhumane they do have rules. If I'm not mistaken, you only get to be a martyr if you are killed in the course of action that takes the lives of infidels. But if you don't blow yourself up in the process you run the risk of being arrested and sent away to rot in prison with no reward, no virgins, nothing. So we have these radicals who have no fear of death but are terrified of getting caught. Thus islamic terrorism has a distinct "flavor" where suicide missions and elaborate bombings with the mastermind far away from the authorities seem to be the order of the day. The idea of gunning people down Jared Loughner style and getting caught and paraded around the media is just too humiliating, too terrifying to consider.

...but I'm not sure what you meant by "our enemy is greed."

23. Hey, I thought I was the only person who thought that way - but of
course I get accused of being a conspiracy theorist. How could they have carried off such a sophisticated attack and yet f-up blowing up a van in Times Square? I don't know what happened or who did it, but I certainly don't believe the official story.

And I also strongly agree w/ your last point, except I think it's been going on a little longer than 40 years. :hi:

16. Oh, wake up.

We're being fucked every minute of every day. Whether you want to label those fucking us Exxon, Saudi Arabia, or any other mega-corporation, all that happened today is that our military-industrial complex stepped on a particularly loathsome bug.

You want to see what what our enemies really look like? Turn on Fox "News" and watch anyone who is talking into a microphone. Turn on the radio and listen to any wingnut spouting hatred. Watch any Tea Party lunatic screeching their ignorance, or any (so-called "moderate") member of the Republican Party endorsing them.

Call them "Bin Laden." Call them "Bush." Call them the Koch Brothers. I don't care whether they're in Saudi Arabia, Washington, Texas, or Wall Street. We are getting fucked every moment of every day. And those I've named are just a few of those who are fucking us.

Please, please, don't be blinded by the "news" that a dragon has been slain. We are surrounded by countless dragons who want everything we own or might want to own.

20. Oh, I don't disagree with any of that - only with the contention that
bin Laden was OPPOSED to that.

He was a huge capitalist, while also being a theocrat - rather like a few I could name in this country. Where do you think his family get their fortune?

Just because somebody is in a war against one branch of capitalism, that doesn't mean he's an anti-capitalist - remember he got his start as an anti-communist fighter.

21. So have a glass of champagne. And let's get to the real war that
most Americans don't even realize needs to be fought. And that war is the 99% of us American have nots, against the 1% of American haves. They own us, and yet we're not doing much to battle them. And make no mistake. They are our deadly enemies.
