Burial at sea?
Can someone post a link or some more info on this?
How is this already a done deal since the WH was so careful to say they would handle the body 'in accordance with Muslim law'...

1. It's a done deal because you gotta bury 'em fast under Islamic rules.
And a burial at sea fits broadly within the rules.

6. sadly, I view with enormous skepticism anything to come out of the CIA/military complex
no matter how welcome the news might be.

3. It destroys the ability for his followers to have a shrine at his burial place.
Smart move.

9. after reading, i get it...
did not know that Muslim law was so strict about the timing of burial...and to find a place for him within 245 hours could have proved difficult for sure...
and it seems there would be folks who don;t like it no matter what is done... if our guys went to the trouble of prayers in arabic, that's sayin something. i think that would have been per obama's orders, to respect as much as possible, but still to be quick and make sure there's no place to enshrine or cause a target...

the humorist in me can't help but think it's a little mafia-esque... "he's sleepin' wit da fishes, now..."

12. It is against Muslim religion to bury at sea except under certain circumstances if
the person died at sea. If they have to bury at sea the body is supposed to be weighted and shark type areas are to be avoided.

Muslim rules say buried deep in the ground and in a certain position related to Mecca.

This is what some scholars say.

13. Islamic authorities don't always agree and there is no definative text...
...for funeral requirements in Islam.

Quick burial is preferred.

Many authorities and some historical texts allow burial at sea as an option when it is feared that a grave may be violated or venerated, both of which are abhorrent to orthodox Muslim theology.

The body was ritually washed and prayed over in Arabic as required before being consigned to the sea.

Aside from the ethical issues involved in the killing itself, the Navy (and U.S. authorities) were clearly trying to respect Muslim sensibilities.

However, it's a no-win situation from a PR standpoint no matter how they handle it.

I give them props for trying.

diffidently,
Bright

14. Better
than the trophy display of Hussein's sons under Bush like some Wild West saloon photo op and part of the reason they did this fast disposal. Imagine even the debate in our treasonous MSM without a quick fait accompli.
