Research links rise in Falluja birth defects and cancers to US assault•
Defects in newborns 11 times higher than normal

• 'War contaminants' from 2004 attack could be cause

A study examining the causes of a dramatic spike in birth defects in the Iraqi city of Falluja has for the first time concluded that genetic damage could have been caused by weaponry used in US assaults that took place six years ago.

The research, which will be published next week, confirms earlier estimates revealed by the Guardian of a major, unexplained rise in cancers and chronic neural-tube, cardiac and skeletal defects in newborns. The authors found that malformations are close to 11 times higher than normal rates, and rose to unprecedented levels in the first half of this year – a period that had not been surveyed in earlier reports

1. I always wonder how these findings sit with the right to life crowd
Falluja is not isolated. Every where on this planet that our military industrial complex has left a footprint there follows higher instances of birth defects. The left over arsenal, land mines, and severely emotionally damaged people add to the misery.
Will we ever reach the consensus that war is the MOST immoral act and is the ultimate sin?

2. This is old news............The depleted uranium anti-tank
rounds that have been littering the Iraqi landscape have caused horrible birth defects in many Iraqi children, as well as the children of some returning US soldiers.

4. It's old news, which US government seems always to be trying to deny .....

It's sometimes three decades old -- because in the first go round we left enough

of this stuff behind to make us responsibile for ... was it a half million children's

deaths?

Wherever we go, we are the bringers of death!

3. Is this war day at DU?
So far there have been 3 posts about war (and I just got here) and the followups expected. If it is war day, let me know and I'll avoid all the threads that are about nothing really except beating up on the USA. Or the MIC as it's called by those into doom and gloom.

5. I think it's self-centered to say that this article is primarily about the USA.
