News knocks Donald Trump out of spotlight

It was the ultimate metaphor for the sudden deflation of the Donald Trump balloon: On Sunday night, NBC abruptly cut away from his reality show, “Celebrity Apprentice,” to air President Barack Obama’s announcement that the U.S. had killed Osama bin Laden.

With that, Trump was pushed almost totally out of the political frame — and his prospects for reentry look dim.

“The events of the last 24 hours slapped America back to adultland,” said GOP consultant Mike Murphy, who has taken a wary view of the Trump boomlet from the beginning. “It’s time for the circus to leave town, and Trump will be on one of the wagons.”

On Monday, Trump was absent from the cable airwaves. He issued a short statement: “I want to personally congratulate President Obama and the men women of the Armed Forces for a job very well done. … We should spend the next several days not debating party politics, but in remembrance of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those fighting for our freedom. God Bless America.”

Trump adviser Michael Cohen said Trump wanted to “enjoy the moment” and take a step back from politics.

that he had stepped into a pile of doggy doo doo. Too thin skinned to handle a real critique of what he has done so far for America. I love that he was called out as a racist...As if we all wouldn't go to Harvard or send our kids there if we could figure out how to get them in.

officially until after the apprentice was through.

Could it be he's just taking a step back from politics momentarily, as in 48-72 hours?

And btw, the apprentice did air for the majority of the population. The wild west has to set their clocks way back but it's not like this totally preempted his show.

11. Why so much hostility toward Trump? Don't we WANT him to run?

Obama must be considered the favorite in 2012 against any challenger. Nevertheless, someone like Mitt Romney would make it a lot closer. With Trump at the top of the Republican ticket, we improve our chances of holding the Senate and retaking the House.
